LaStella - 3b
Yastrzemski - rf
Solano - 2b
Belt - 1b
Dickerson - lf
Slater - cf
Crawford - ss
Casali - c
Wood - sp

No Giant with more than 5 ABs against Pablo Lopez. Only Starling Marte with more than 5 ABs against Wood and he is 0 for 6.

May the Dickerson who starts see his team win.

Wood settling down nicely after a pampers laced first inning.

Bing. Bang. Boom.

This kid looks nasty

I was listening to the radio, when Doval was pitching to Duval, and the announcer couldn't make up their minds how to pronounce the names, and it got confusing.

Well done for the young man. A MLB debut to remember!

It occurs to me that but for two bullpen meltdowns, we'd have won every series this year.

Giants have given up the least runs in all of baseball, except the Mets who have played 4 fewer games (and only 9 more than them)

Stellar pitching so far. Obviously the bats need to wake up a bit but maybe this team will be balanced.

On a 97 win pace which is unlikely to be sustained but this is about as good a start as you could hope for. Soft schedule is a part of it.

Wild card maybe? 2010 happened a year "early" too.

If the season ended today, Mil and Phi would play a 163 with the winner coming to the cove for the Wildcard game.

It occurs to me that but for two bullpen meltdowns, we'd have won every series this year.
I thought I'd look up how the bullpen has done through the games played through today. Here's the breakdown:
Game 1 - 2.1 IP, 3 H, 6 R (4 ER), 7 W, 3 Ks, 4 IRS (inherited runners scored - 3 of 3 on Rogers, 1 of 2 on J Garcia) Main villains: Wisler, Garcia, Rogers, Alvarez. Bullpen lost game, 7-8
Game 2 - 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 W, 5 Ks, 0 IRS. 6-3 Win
Game 3 - 2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R (ER), 0 W, 3 Ks Main villain: Moronta 0-4 loss
Game 4 - 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R (ER), 1 W, 2 Ks Main villain: Wisler 3-2 Win
Game 5 - 3 IP, 2 H, 2 R (2 ER), 2 W, 1 K Main villain: Wisler Bullpen lost game, 1-3
Game 6 - 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R (ER), 0 W, 3 Ks Main villain: Rogers 3-2 Win
Game 7 - 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 W, 1 K 3-1 Win
Game 8 - 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 W, 5 Ks 4-3 Win
Game 9 - 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 W, 2 Ks, 0 IRS (0 of 2 for Rogers) Main villain: Alvarez 4-0 Win
Game 10 - 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R (ER), 0 W, 6 Ks Main villain: J Garcia 0-3 Loss
Game 11 - 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R (ER), 1 W, 5 Ks Main villain: Peralta 7-6 Win
Game 12 - 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 W, 2 Ks 3-0 Win
Game 13 - 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R (3 ER), 1 W, 2 Ks Main villains: Wisler, Peralta Bullpen lost game, 1-4
Game 14 - 5 IP, 10 H, 6 R (5 ER), 3 W, 4 Ks, 2 IRS (0 of 1 for Peralta, 2 of 2 for Wisler, 0 of 2 for Rogers) Main villains: Alvarez, Wisler, McGee, J Garcia Bullpen lost game, 6-7
Game 15 - 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 W, 5 Ks 1-0 Win

We could make a case that many of the 6 losses can be pinned on the offense, but since we all know that there is practically no offense on this club so far, we'll talk about losses based on the rotation or bullpen. Out of those 6 losses, 4 can be pinned on the bullpen and only 2 on the starting pitcher. The bullpen is still very good but not quite as good as some may think. Note that just about every time Wisler pitches, bad things happen. He does not look right.

In 15 games, the bullpen has covered 46 innings, given up 30 hits (10 of them yesterday) and 14 walks (good for a 0.957 WHIP). They allowed 2 runs, 19 of them earned (good for a 3.72 ERA). They have struck out 49 batters. Lastly, they have allowed 6 of 12 inherited base runners to score. My numbers may be off slightly as I quickly went through the box score for each game to do this.

Thanks for the legwork. Bullpen losses don't bother me...they're going to win some and lose some. What is tough to deal with are games 1 and 14...the horrible blown save mound shattery situations.

Those linger. Again, they'd have won all five series this year if the bullpen hadn't melted down in save situations.

I know, it's gonna happen but still....

Both were sucker punches, no doubt. I think game 14 was worse by the fact that the bullpen had a mini-meltdown just the night before as well.
