Utah’s step-by-step - It’s been a long, slow grind, but Kyle Whittingham has the Utes to where they are expected to win the Pac-12 in 2019. The Utes have climbed the ladder from Mountain West program who many thought couldn’t compete in the Pac-12, to perennial bowl team, to division champion, and now to the official preseason favorite.

Are the Utes ready to enter the season as a favorite, blow past a very weak South, and take down a North power in the Championship Game?

Whoda thunk?

I would say the Utes are expected to win the South...not so much the entire conference.

Utah's starting to get overhyped. They might be the favorite, but I don't think they're especially talented outside of the defensive front, and Tyler Huntley kind of sucks. We can pretend that he doesn't, but he does.

I think it'll be USC or ASU. USC just has tons of guys still, and ASU, if you're a Jayden Daniels believer (which I am based on practice), has what should be a strong offense while only losing 3 contributors of significance from the 2 deep on defense. Most of the best players on D were freshmen and sophomores last year, and they weren't bad as a unit. Wren is the only loss on D that isn't likely going to be an upgrade.

And they beat Utah by 3 scores last year, while all but 1 of their losses were single score games (Fresno, w/o Harry).

Clay Helton named JT Daniels the starter. No surprise. Kedon Slovis the freshman as the backup , big surprise. I didn't go to any of the practices but friends who did said Slovis was impressive.
