Tomorrow's "Hometown Hockey" is in Ontario for what feels like the 8th time in a row. This time it's Milton and it appears the focus is going to be John Tavares who has almost nothing to do with the town other than he played 18 games there as a kid and grew up in neighbouring Oakville alongside yours truly who can vouch that the only time anybody from Oakville thinks about Milton is when we wanted to go hiking at Rattlesnake.

Not Rogers related, but media related as the axe came down hard at CTV Calgary the other day.

Rogers making a lot of non Detroit fans unhappy by showing the closing ceremony at the Joe instead of the Kings - Ducks game.

To continue on from the general thread but because this is more Rogers-specific...

2016-17 NHL ratings dropped in U.S., rose in Canada, reversing recent trend

The success of teams across the country was a boon this year for Rogers, which saw increases across all of its national “Hockey Night in Canada” broadcasts, as well as with its Sunday night “Hometown Hockey” programming.

It saw even larger growth regionally for the teams. Viewership was up 27 percent for Maple Leafs games on Sportsnet Ontario and up 40 percent for Oilers games on Sportsnet West. Even matchups between U.S. teams did better in Canada this season, up 4 percent.

It goes on to state that the HNIC Prime East broadcast was up 9% and the Prime West show was up 6%. Also states they've raised the advertising prices for Leaf games multiple times this year.

its meaningless to rogers considering Leafs ratings have increased but Id be interested to know how much snet pacifics ratings for Canucks have dropped ... they managed to stay pretty stable the past couple years of trash hockey until 2015-16 but i get a sense this year was a turn towards apathy amongst viewers

ESPN is in a deal for NBA rights where they have committed $24 billion. That's a great deal for the NBA, not so good for ESPN.

It's steep but the NBA may be the only league right now with growth potential, which is odd when considering the NBA is the most non-competitive of the 4 major leagues.
