Trade him and get what you can for him this year. He is gone. He doesn't want to be here and apparently Dan and Bruce don't want him here, either. My bet is that he is traded on draft day or just before. The real question is what do we do with the pics we get? I am really not impressed with any of the touted QBs coming out this year. I see a bunch of huge potential busts. My guess is we play the year out with Colt under center, until he is knocked senseless. Then we play Subfield, pretty much guaranteeing us our own high first round pick next year.

I hope that it doesn't turn out this way & they extend Cousins. However - let's say that they move on from Cousins. If either Subfield surprises or they draft a QB who does well down the road what then? Most likely they will also try to lowball either one of them & eventually they will play elsewhere. This organization always appears to have a "grass is greener" syndrome.

They might be the worst in sports in retaining their own talent. They always appear to be more fascinated with the talent on other teams. Whether Cousins or whoever - they need to eventually understand the fact that good QBs in this league cost a lot & they don't have to play to the level of Brady or Rodgers to justify that type of contract. Unfortunately the little dictator may never be able to comprehend that fact.

I chose No. 3 - tag this year and next year.

I have said this several times. The 1 year deal might be the new norm. Some say they have treated him poorly, I say "sure, to the tune of $44 million." He said the other day it was time to give up the conversion and was sharing pics from the Aston Martin dealer. That doesn't sound like poor treatment. Even if they transition tag him next year his three year total is $72 million or two number one picks if he leaves.

You can always draft a Peterman in round 3 or later and let him learn for the next two years.

Exactly, Kirk is playing us like a fiddle. He either wants out and/or he wants to get paid an excessive amount of money on a LTD (25 mill per/minimum). He is perfectly fine playing on the tag this year, rolling the dice one more time, getting paid 25 million this year and THEN hitting the open market and getting closer to 30 per next year on a LTD with us or someone else. Matter of fact this is what I think he wants. I say move him now while we can still get 2 or 3 high picks for him. Maybe I am completely naive, but I can't see the FO offering him only 20 mill with some outs after a couple years. Even I don't think Dan and Bruce are so brazen that they don't realize that KC is our only real option for the foreseeable future.

What confuses me is the fact that it appears that the biggest issue the Redskins have is the amt of guaranteed money in the contract. They then keeping playing him on tags which are all guaranteed. If they extend this into next season it will be an insane amt of guaranteed money while not guaranteeing that he will stay with the team long term. I hope that this is all irrelevant & they justify this by giving him the long term deal.

I hope it doesn't, either. But if they haven't reached a deal by now (2 years of negotiating), then there are ulterior motives at work. Maybe on both sides. Its clear to me that one party doesn't want to be associated with the other party. So if a divorce is coming, which I believe it is, then trade him now and get as much as you can.

The problem is that dan suffers from coveting other's shiny toys. He grows tired of his own. Its all about the bling with Dan. Kirk just doesn't have the pizazz for Dan. Dan wants arm candy and that is not Kirk.

My biggest fear is that they do trade him, get a high pick or two, and draft a QB this year who flames out. Again. If they do this, I really hope KC goes somewhere else and just lights it up.

I don't understand how this guy is so successful. Dan is likely about to get rid of 2 pro bowl QBs within 4 years of each other, find another QB that will lead the team to a 1-and-done in the playoffs, and manage to convince the fans to hang on. I will say all the original fans from the 80's are probably about done with this team though lol

The real tragic story in all of this is that they had him at 16 per year had they only resigned him then before the "2015 you like that" season concluded. They couldn't evaluate his potential then and apparently, they still can't. They, being Dan and Bruce, can't admit to themselves, or the public, that they screwed the pooch on KC. They can't pay him now being that pride has gotten in the way on both sides. It's a marriage that I believe just can't work. If they pay him what he wants then they see it as Kirk wins. If Kirk accepts what they want to pay him then Kirk sees it as they won. Pride is a powerful thing. Wars have been started because of it.

Id be surprised if Kirk is a Redskin next year. I believe he plays here this year and then he leaves. Another blunder by our beloved owner. Has no problem over paying other players, but for some reason he won't pull the trigger on Kirk.

Pride.

I'm an original fan from George Allen and as I said I am nearly done with 'em. Just no end in site.

But back to the topic I don't see how anyone can say Kirk does not want to be here. All he is doing is rejecting offers that are reportedly way below market. Why on Earth would he even think about accepting them? To me all the actions show it's the team that does not want him here, not the QB.

Wow, Showing my age with the broncos victory being the first 'Skins superbowl I ever saw. But yeah, I agree he shouldn't accept a lowball offer and it's a slap in the face they are treating him this way.
I just don't understand why, not only are they going to get rid of him, but they are pretending like KIRK is the villain. On the other hand, why are they going to keep him, just to watch him or hope he has a bad season and accepts a lowball offer?

This is an elite mind game

Let me add a different take. I now have a growing suspicion that the way Kirk is being dealt with contractually is among the first in a league wide effort to cap the rising costs associated with the position. (Denver was the first) Believe it or not it is highly possible that moves like this was agreed upon by every team not because of players like Cousins but because of guys like Osweiller. There's a real huge gap between what a QB earns and that of every other position on the team, and it's getting wider. Anyone remember when RB's were commanding elite salaries?

How will it be done? I'm not completely sure, but we do currently have an idea of what methodology will be employed, and that is, you build the team and plug in your QB. Can it work in a copycat league? Let's ask Dallas!

Listening to Charlie Casserly's clueless (imo) take on the situation a few weeks ago, I'm wondering if there's a sense of denial among the older NFL folks. When Cholly was asked what he thought it would take for the Skins to sign Cousins, he said a 20 million dollar a year offer. And maybe guys like Allen are stupid enough to believe that's true. Casserly seems like a nice guy, but...

My feeling is - the guaranteed dollars mean at least as much as anything else - but the rumors we hear rarely if ever delve into the guaranteed dollars.

The Redskins are looking for a Lease, Kirk wants a full out purchase deal.

Notice when you lease a car, you give a heavy up front guarantee, but you can walk away for a bit less. You sign a normal purchase deal, and you are locked into a tad bit more guaranteed money.

Here's a fact. He is guaranteed $24M for this upcoming year. Why would he take less? His agent has said this from the get go of the negotiations last year. As soon as the tag is applied, that becomes the floor for the negotiations. Apparently Allen doesn't understand this. He will after this season, however. Which is why the tag will not be offer next year. IF they do not work out a long term deal before the draft, KC will either be traded this year or will play for us but enter FA next year and leave. And we get squat.....oh yeah a compensatory pick.

Sdad, I think most of us feel that is the most likely outcome, definitely if a trade partner isn't being sought after/doesn't emerge with a very nice package of picks.

But I haven't seen you comment on what happens to KC if that 7/15 deadline passes. You still think KC will be a Skin LT?

I think thats going to depend on two things.

1. Did we take a QB in this years draft early (picks 1-3). If so, it might be hard to keep him going into 2018 considering we basically drafted his replacement.

2. It will depend on how the team does with him playing under the tag. If we say, win the Division and a playoffs game, Dan and Bruce will open up the wallet next year and have no choice but to do it. And this would occur even if we drafted his replacement.

Now mind you, if we finish 8-8 or worse, it wont matter either way. They will determine he still doesnt have the IT factor and we will then either roll with the guy we drafted to replace him if we take some one this year. If we didnt draft a QB early in the 207 draft, they will simply make a push for a QB in the 2018 draft and let Kirk hit the open market unencumbered.

If he isn't signed long term before the draft I do not see him being signed long term by the July 15th deadline so the smart thing to do is to trade him if he isn't signed long term by the draft
