These are Umarex guns with a Walther stamp on them. If it's not made in Ulm it is pretty much pot-metal crap from an airsoft toy maker.

I've read that people were having quite a few issues with this model, that'd explain it.

Word. I've shot 50-100 rds out of my Shield every Tuesday for the last 2+ years and have only had like 3 fuckups and they were all out of the same box of store bought factory reloads the first couple times I took it to the range.
