I like it....but S.F. right now is a bad trading partner, so forget that from my perspective. three other observations, Mixon won't be there in round 3, so I'd take him in the 2nd to be certain that I get him. Mahomes is an outstanding project, who would push for playing time in a year or two. Excellent back-up for my guy.

I don't like drafting QB's after round 3, so to me Russell in the 7th is a waste, better used on another position. I know Kirk was drafted in round 4, but to get what we've gotten from him was pure coincidence ( confluence of Gruden's offense meeting Kirk's traditional style of play).

I'm a firm believer in getting a backup that more closely favors the starter, if that is Kirk, he reminds me of Kirk just a very raw, not yet ready for prime time version with a stronger arm, better accuracy, better wheels and a far greater upside.

However, if the starter is my choice, then with those same attributes he's gonna be pushing to start in a year or two.

Either way that's a win win for us, possibly putting us in the same situations as N.E. and Cincy has now with their backups. Something that we certainly don't have now.

"IF" this played out --
Minter, Logan and or Hankins were good FA
I'm not completely fond of your Draft but at the same time it looks complete with the expection of Mahommes.
there should be some solid 2018 QB FA
Grade B-
curious what you would have done with the 2nd pick besides QB

RGIII Part Deaux:

Analysis
Strengths
Possesses NFL body type for work inside and out of the pocket. Has an undeniable swagger and confidence to his game. Accuracy has improved in each season since his freshman year. Naturally accurate in his every day throws. Comfortable challenging defenders in space. Has arm strength and fearlessness to attack the cover-2 voids down the sideline. Can make deep, field side throws. Cranks up velocity to fit passes into tight windows. Former pitcher who propels hips through his release with aggressive torque and never gets cheated on his follow-through. Can deliver strikes from a variety of arm angles. Expedites release on RPOs (run-pass option) or when pressure is mounting in pocket. Puts effort into play-action fakes. Relaxed and effective when throwing on the move. Can be a legitimate dual-threat in a boot-action offense. Improved his eye manipulation over the years and will eyeball linebackers to hold them while patterns unfold around them. Has pocket mobility to escape pressure and the poise to extend plays and find alternate targets. Hands are very strong. Can pump and reset without issues. Competes as a runner and is willing to go the extra mile for the first down.
Weaknesses
Can be inconsistent in his approach. Needs to play inside the offense and show more discipline. Too eager to go big game hunting. Ravenous appetite for the explosive play can also bring unwanted trouble. Willingness to default to playground style appears to limit his ability to get into a consistent rhythm. Needs to improve anticipatory reads and learn to take what the defense gives him. Decision making can go from good to bad in a moment's notice. Operates from a narrow base and allows his upper body and arm to race ahead of his feet. Has a dip and wind-up in his standard release. Explosive delivery and follow-through causes some throws to sail. Needs better touch on intermediate and deep balls. Carries ball a little low in the pocket. Impatient. Will leave pocket prematurely rather than standing in and winning in rhythm. Better as a scrambler than pure runner. Looked a little less mobile in the open field this season.
Sources Tell Us
"He's got a great arm, big balls and he's mobile. He is going to drive his head coach crazy for the first couple of years and there is no getting around that. If it clicks for him and he's coachable, I think he could become a special quarterback." - NFC executive
NFL Comparison
Jay Cutler
Bottom Line
Mahomes is a big, confident quarterback who brings a variety of physical tools to the party, but he's developed some bad habits and doesn't have a very repeatable process as a passer. Mahomes' ability to improvise and extend plays can lead to big plays for his offense, but he will have to prove he can operate with better anticipation and be willing to take what the defense gives him in order to win from the pocket. Mahomes will be a work in progress, but he's a high ceiling, low floor prospect.

I don't see him as a fit in Jay Gruden's system. Terrible footwork. Holds the ball too long. Another spread offense QB. Sounds a lot like someone that was here a couple of years ago. Holds the ball too long looking for the big play.

This is exactly what Dan Snyder and a portion of the fan base want though. When they say.. well Cousins is no Aron Rogers, what they really mean is.... Cousins is not what we expected Bob to become.

NFL comparison Brett Favre (mine) but even if we accept this comparison, Jay Cutler...... there's a world of difference between Griffith and Cutler. Not sure where you're getting the Griffith comparison from.

Big 12, big arm, holds the ball too long, spread offense, doesn't read offenses well, poor footwork .....

I watched this guy on tape a few weeks ago hoping he was a good answer. Above our my observations after watching his game tape. These are the same observations I had when Griffin was a senior. I added the scouting report as an assessment from someone other than me.

I like Nathan Peterman because he played in a pro style offense. He doesn't have all the physical skills that Mahomes has but IMO he is more close to ready. If someone can work with Mahomes for two or three years maybe he can be big time. I don't see Gruden as that guy .... at least at this stage of Gruden's coaching career.

Fair enough, I too watched game film of him and came away with the Favre comparison. So we agree to disagree, I will do a bit of research on Peterman and get back to you with my assessment.

As far as Gruden is concerned, wasn't he supposed to be a QB whisperer while in Cincy and sold as that in getting his job here?....Oh hell, wait, Bruce Allen was pushing that shit. As the late great Hilda Radner would say........"Never mind!"

You actually need a QB in order to be able whisper... Im just saying. Once Jay actually had a QB to work with, we went from 4-12 to back to back non losing seasons. Strange how that worked.

WOW....just WOW, 5-11 with Colt huh? Clearly he's a QB that Gruden can work with, he's kept him on the team for a while now!

If Colt was considered a viable starter, there was no need to tag Kirk last year. Colt is a step down, you know it. I know it, and Jay Gruden knows it. So yea, 5-11... and thats assuming the defense actually improves.

Oh no let's stick to your premise that, and I quote...."You actually need a QB in order to be able whisper." Well Colt is that according to Gruden himself who has kept him in place for a time now.

Tell you what Sty... if McCoy starts and we make the playoffs I will leave the forum forever, thats how confident I am that McCoy is no better than a backup version of Rex Grossman.

No point in doing that, you stay here I enjoy reading your posts. So let's make this deal, if Colt comes in or starts and is as bad as you (and BTW I) project him to be....no more references to Gruden as a QB whisperer.

NO deal dude.. that like saying Dale Earnhardt should be able to win the Daytona 500 in a ford Escort. Too many times we have seen good coaches saddled with BAD QBs and it goes poorly. Under Gruden, McCoy will put up yards for sure, but his flaws are the same as Grossmans. You cant fix what ails some guys. If you could, Cousins would have never gotten a chance to start in DC.
