They can't even win their conference- let alone a title.
Boston is 3rd in the East and has the best chance in the NBA at having the #1 overall pick in an absolutely loaded draft--- plus they get to pick swap with Brooklyn AGAIN the following year.

Boston has a great coach, a ton of talent and flexibility, plenty of assets- the most valuable draft asset in the entire league in Brooklyn's first rounder. I mean- give me a break. The Celtics are one of the better off teams in the entire NBA looking forward.

1. I mean- Brad Stevens looks like he is going to be a great coach

2. They get Brooklyn's pick this year- and get to swap picks with them next year--- thats crazy.

3. They have high end young talent like Smart and Brown who are very good young players.

4. They have very talented two way players like Crowder and Bradley on GREAT contracts.

5. They HAVE an All Star in Thomas on a very good contract and he is still very young.

Boston is light years ahead of the Lakers- I dont even know why you would bring up the Celtics when there is such a stark disparity between the two teams- they truly are on very very opposite ends of the spectrum as far as competing goes anytime in the next 3-5 years when compared with the Lakers.

Even just looking at young talent---There is just not that big a difference between Boston's young guys like Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart and Julius Randle and Ingram- in fact- both those guys went within 1 pick of eachother respectively in each of their drafts. Add in the fact that the Lakers OWE 2 first rounders out- and the Celtics have 2 likely EXTREMELY high first rounders incoming from Brooklyn- and the disparity is humongous. I mean- say the season ended today and the Lakers give up their pick--- they wont be adding a first round talent- while the Celtics will be adding AT LEAST a top 3 pick in a freaking loaded draft to Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart.

Are the Celtics going to be challenging cleveland, GS, san antonio or whoever comes out top in the West in the next 3-5 years?

If they're able to make the right moves, yes. They have all the working pieces to put together a super loaded roster, it's just a matter of executing.

yah. Absolutely. They already have a good team, a good coach, the ability to make cap space and the best draft assets out of any team in the league. They are without a doubt on an ascendant path and have a ton of young talent despite already being a pretty damn good team.

LOL
So are you saying they will beat your Cavs to come out of the East & then beat GS-or one of the other top teams that may come out of the West-to win a title?

totally agree.

Bradley, Crowder, Thomas are all just entering their primes and are on great contracts. Jaylen Brown, Smart- and whoever they add with the Brooklyn picks in the next 2 drafts will be the core of a great young squad. Brad Stevens looks like a great young coach. They are good enough to attract high level free agents.

Ainge just needs to execute- a big if- but like you said- all the pieces are definitely there.

Well, against the cavs, yes - they'll be in the lottery in 5 years.

Well if we're talking 3-5 years from now- sure anything is possible. I didn't know we were talking about that far in the future when Wiggy was referring to THIS seasons Lakers.

in the next 3-5 years they are as well positioned as anyone. Who knows what is going to happen in Cleveland and Golden state- as much as i want to say LeBron will be great for 5 more years i dont know that. As much as Golden State fans want to believe all 4 guys will be able to stay together salary cap wise- they dont know that.

Boston is in GREAT position going forward. After GSW and CLE - if i was Boston i wouldnt trade rosters/assets/coaches with anyone.

Im saying whether you are talking about today or 5 years from now Boston is in infinitely better shape then the Lakers because of the players and assets they have. Thats nothing personal against the Lakers- the same could be said of the vast majority of teams in the league when compared to the Celtics.

ehhh...it did end up with Blatt getting fired which was the right move.

If this pressure results in the Cavs making a move that will help them so much the better.

Its January though....i think LeBron largely just needs to take a chill pill- it will be figured out---- all though- maybe it will be figured out because of the urgency and leadership of James- I mean- that IS why it will be figured out...dont ya think?

Ok, so you think they could beat your Cavs THIS SEASON if they met in the Conf Finals?

if the Cavs had bad luck and the Celtics have good luck absolutely. The Cavs are guaranteed absolutely NOTHING- especially with the way they have been playing lately.

That sounds like a realistic opinion. And I applaud you for that.

So then why acquire Korver? Obviously that didn't address their PG needs- and instantly made them more vulnerable on defense.
I think James needs to just do his job on the court & let the FO do theirs.
