He cant be any worse than Cousins

Shark! I sat there and watched Dak Prescott miss only seven passes for the whole game. Norman was responsible for three of those incompletions. The thought that Jerry coulda hit on a young QB that we'll face for years to come, makes me sick to my stomach.

Dak Prescott had two things we didnt....

1. A running game to keep our defense honest
2. An OC who was calling plays to protect him instead of trying to make Dak win the game all on his own.

Add a superior OLine to that as well. Again, if this team had an above average DL and OL, we would compete.

O line is getting there (obviously need a new center). D line is light years away.

Then maybe we should focus on a new center and some really good d-line. Along with a new Defensive Coordinator. I think it would go along ways towards this team getting better. And we knew all along it would take 3-4 years of good drafting to right the ship and get better depth.

Although I don't see how you can pay Kirk Cousins a big contract or franchise him again unless he suddenly becomes Tom Brady for the rest of the season.

The Cowboys were balanced in their play calling 30 runs - 30 passes and so they protected Prescott. But they averaged only 3.4 yards per carry. The Redskins averaged 4.8 yards per carry but called only 17 runs for 46 passes. So we didn't have a running game only because we didn't want to run the football.

My point is they have to be more balanced with their play calling, just like they did last year. You can't have Cousins throwing +40 times and expect great things.

Agree with everything stated here. Also - as many have suggested - they have only played two games. A lot of this likely won't get much better but might as well play it out to see what changes are needed moving forward.

And that is the real issue here. You cant expect to throw a guy out there and have him be responsible for 75% of the offense, give him a bad defense, and what is currently the worst running game in the NFL... then be pissed when he isnt the second coming of Brady. When in the history of the NFL has a team ever been good with a 3-1 Pass to run ratio....

The play calling on the last Redzone drive says it all. 1 down, pass. 2nd down pass. 3rd Down we go five wide and try to pass. Now yes it was a dumb mistake for Kirk to try and force that ball into Garcon with Dallas dropping eight into coverage. I agree Kirk could and should have played better, but coaching, play calling and the defense could have been alot better as well.

Nobody is denying that the defense and play calling isn't also at fault. And I know that I am certainly not expecting Cousins to be Brady or Rodgers. Just asking him to step it up a bit. Perhaps they will run the ball more in the next few weeks. You seem to think that their running game is awful. Don't necessarily agree. I think that they need to run it a bit more & perhaps throw in some more short passes. Time will tell.

The coaching staff also seems to think the running game is awful. Or at least calling three pass plays from the six yard line would make one think that. I mean seriously... what other explanation can there be for a 3 to 1 pass to run ratio?? I get week one, when we were down by a ton of points. But from the six yard line, with a three point lead.. and we dont even consider trying to run the ball??

Look at it this way, instead of going five wide on that 3rd down where Kirk throws the pick, say we had run it. At worst we end up getting no yards, kick the field goal and we are up by six. And more importantly, we avoid putting Kirk in a position to make a soul crushing mistake which we telegraphed for the entire world to see by lining up five wide on 3rd and goal.

Ask Boswell: Redskins, Nationals and Washington sports

Good Q&A from WP that addresses these issues. I agree that Gruden is part of the problem (don't agree that Jones is that bad & he can be used more). According to Boswell part of the problem is that 1. they have all these receiving weapons & they are probably tempted to use them too much 2. a major part of Cousins success last season was actually throwing TD passes in the red zone. & 3. the desire to perhaps use Doctson too much to prove that he can contribute now.

Perhaps those pts are not 100% valid, but they have merit. Now that this has failed time to see if Gruden can readjust.

Well now the real hidden issues are surfacing again. We know about the issues with the run Def but we have other problems which some over looked last yr b/c we won the division and made the PO's. KC was Ok last yr however we had no commitment to the run(OC). This yr KC is off and now our OC play calling is even more exposed. No running game at all.

Dallas is not a good Def unit however they won the game yesterday b/c of bad play calling (OC), missed open WR's combined with some very questionable pentalities on 2 3rd down plays. Believe I am not trying to take up for the DEF but our def gave us opportunities 2 times around the Dallas 40/45 yard line and we only get FG's. Gruden has a mentality of being to pass happy. Run the ball to setup the pass. We lack the understanding of this concept offensively and b/c of that it gave a rookie QB with bad def team a chance to take a win from the SKINS. That's sad and says a lot about this team. Which means coaching!!!!!!

You guys have a knowledgeable Hoop base...Having faced WAS this yr...my 2 cents, from an outside viewpoint.

Cousins is struggling, no question, but expecting him to just pick up where he left off LY imo was never realistic...he's playing like what he is...a 2nd yr starter.

They are 2-0, but the kid that got the big deal in HOU is not playing much better....Winston (whom I think is going to be a good one) really stunk it up yesterday. Bortles is looking pretty avg himself.

Several guys have hit on it...I understand the Steeler game...got behind two possessions in the 3Q and that kind of took the run away, but in this game there seemed to be a lack of commitment to the running game, and that put the game on Cousins' shoulders. He's most likely pressing under that pressure, definitely more accurate than what he showed yesterday.

Only 2 games, but to state the obvious, this week is critical.

He was also playing in his 2nd NFL game. If Cousins needs the same protections as a rookie playing in the 2nd game of his NFL career. While Cuz is in his 5th year and 2nd year as a starter you're right. They should bench him right now and be done with it,
