Hell were on a streak here, keep your butt up in the U.P..................I bet on the Tigers and those jokers lose....I bet against them it's money in the bank.....I stopped betting on them to win and it's working......Don't screw us by leaving the U.P.......Welcome home but if they lose tomorrow it's on you!!!!!!!!!

If I could live the rest of my days in Curtis, MI, I would. But I still have a mortgage and bills to pay. :sorry:

I don't think the tigers are going to do anything at the trade deadline other than Maybe get some relief help. Barring no more injuries I think the starting pitching will be alright or better than alright when Zimmerman and Norris return.Word is they should both be back end of this week.JD is also scheduled to return the end of the week. I guess the question is is there anything better out there then we already have and how steep would the price be?

There's the issue ... Avila doesn't want to part with his top-tier young players (Norris, Boyd, Jimenez) to get a middle reliever or rental starter. And the next level of young players in the Tiger system are simply too crummy to be tradeable.

I still think Detroit has a shot at Hellickson. A two month rental of an average pitcher is not going to cost you Norris. If the Phils are asking for that kind of return, they will have to keep him.

On the other hand...there are some veteran relief pitchers available...not saying they're great...but they won't cost any thing close to a Norris or Boyd. The kind you can pick up for a promising prospect....if the Tigers have any.

For Beau Burrows maybe?

That'd help the bullpen too. Boyd or Norris wouldn't have to start. And Sanchez wouldn't even have to dress.

I am sure the veterans on the club are impressed with the effort put forth by the Tiger front office to help upgrade the team for a playoff push. Texas goes all out. Cleveland attempted too, and still upgraded anyhow. The O's made moves. Other contenders made moves you might question...but they made an attempt. Detroit? Sat there and screamed....We Screwed Ourselves!

How do u know they didn't attempt to do something? U have been telling us all year how crappy the farm system is. Makeing a deal for the sake of making a deal is senseless. ...there is no guarantee. ...

Asking prices just way to high.

Detroit's farm system is a barren wasteland and giving up anyone like Jimenez, Stewart, Gerber, or Jones for a rental only makes it worse.

Detroit's lineup is pretty solid and the rotation has the potential to be a solid 4 deep for any playoff run. Hellickson, Santiago, Moore, or Hill is not that much better than Boyd as a 5th starter. Pelfrey should be used as a bench bait as opposed to sending Boyd down but that's my opinion.

The only way I saw Detroit making a trade is if they pulled off a big name pitcher under contract for a few years. Then I assumed Boyd or Norris would be gone with Jimenez and Stewart.

Just trying to look at it through a player's point of view. Just guessing a lot of them don't know or care about the Tiger's awful minor league system. They MIGHT just see the teams they need to beat adding help...while the Tiger front office ACCOMPLISHED nothing. Sure, there is no guarantee that Andrew Miller will help the Indians...but I suspect he provides a spark for the teams (and fans).

As for the asking price....yes for a Lucroy, Bruce, or someone with years of control past this one....Detroit was at a disadvantage. But PLEASE take a look at the records of some of the players used to get some of the less popular names that were traded. It wasn't the high asking price that hurt the Tigers. If anything it was the crap throughout this team's system. My complaint is that they totally whiffed! The couldn't even find someone just a 'wee bit' better than Mark Lowe, Mike Aviles, or Molenka(sp?).

Now it is up to Tiger PR and media to convince everyone that getting back 3 players, sometime in August, that they already have....is just as good as Texas adding Lucroy and Beltran and the Indians adding Miller and Guyer.

There is no reason to convince anyone of anything....the Tigers didn't have the players to give away that the Indians and Rangers had to trade...

It's a crap shoot when trading prospects. Trading John Smoltz was a great deal. Doyle Alexander went 9-1? 10-1?

But in reality you end up with Jarod Washburn or Aubrey Huff more often than a stud down the stretch rental. And for anyone added you have to subtract. Palfrey, Lowe, and Sanchez are owed a lot of money and can't just be cut.

And in all reality only two starters were out there that made sense...Sale and Archer and I am sure without Fulmer those are deals that were not going to get made.

After JV got done throwing that CG, he said something about being motivated to make sure the Tigers didn't sell. Asked him about buying, just said he didn't want them selling.

I'm disappointed they could t get anything for Moya. Really thought he'd be worth a Mil or twos savings to some club. I was wrong.

In reality, the Tigers don't need to catch Texas or Cleveland. Just need to be ahead of Boston and Houston. Assuming Toronto and BMore are both gonna make it in that is.

Still a long way to go. We don't face Cleveland again until mid-September, so hopefully Detroit can hang close until then.

This is true, but I'd rather avoid that 1-game play-in.

If Detroit could have just played .333 ball with the Tribe it's all even right now. Going forward I can't see Cleveland having the Tigers number to the tune of 11-1.

Looking at the Tigers option again any trade didn't make sense if they had to include the any of the big 4: Fulmer, Norris, Boyd, or Jimenez. A rental player creates a hole next season. In either a #4 starter, assuming Palfrey stays at 5. Or depth don't want to see Sanchez take the hill again as a starter. I see all 4 in Detroit next season, really in Sept of this season.

Then figure in the payroll and the possibility of the luxury tax if you sign a free agent. For an everyday player I didn't see where we needed anyone. Even Lucroy meant McCann's defense is on the bench. As it is now I don't want to see Collins sent down when Martinez returns. That left handed bat off the bench is priceless. But someone needs to go, hoping it's Moloken or Lowe but can't see the Tigers eating Lowe's contract yet.
