Nate Sudfeld! His arm is outstanding. He works hard. He is huge. He moves around well . Some work on mechanics and film study and he can run colt off the roster

This is how I see it. Let's be honest, the odds of this guy ever seeing the field and being a key to our success is right up there with Cleveland winning next year's Super Bowl. It sucks that we had to spend a draft pick on a guy like this. But it had to be done.

It is a sixth round pick. We need back up players too.

OK, Let's play it your way, maybe there is no drop off between our starter(s) and this guy.:D

Honestly, it never HAD to be done.....Sure they needed to add a QB, but, IMHO that guy should have been one that, because of his skill set, presented a serious threat to Colt coming in, and after an initial adjustment period, in position to force Kirk to be better. There were much better choices available throughout this draft!!

i look at back ups as replacement for high price freeagents when contract is up. make no mistake doctson was drafted because of garcon and djax contracts are up next year. and we drafted sudfeld because if cousins kickass he will demand at least 24 mill a year skins can say F off we got mcoy and sudfeldand can always draft a qb next year first round we will lock down breeland and in 3 years fuller if he kick ass he will replace josh norman we draftthis is what the pats and packers do it gives us flexs we will not be forced to do waht dallas did with romo if cousin sucks we are in good shape if cousin kickass we are in good shape same with djax and garcon if we lose both we still have doctson we can draft a number 2 in the first or 2 round next year example is there any contracts up on the dline next year??

i tend to take the lower end of the scale when it comes to 6th round picks . i dont expect much out of them so saying he could push colt off the roster in a year or 2 is a decent "expectation "

i didnt believe there was a qb in this draft we could have had that would have been some "difference maker " and i am not in favor of giving up one of the guys we had in the hopes that a hogan turns out to be something

I do understand and see your point. Although I do not totally disagree with it, there is the SM stated approach where there is a consistent core group of guys and competition everywhere. I believe that there is some mixture of all of this in play, especially at the QB position. Those huge contracts are likely gone, being replaced by cap friendly slots like Denver, and the NYJets are doing. In fact Sm has stated that he will not overpay for Kirk leading me to believe that your projected use of Colt and Sudfield or a reluctance to pay him more than the original publicly stated amount is their final offer, give or take a few coins, are in play.

Nobody is looking for the next Brady or Peyton but certainly won't hesitate to select a guy like that if he comes along. It seems to me that building the team and plugging in an adequate guy at QB has become SOP now.

I also don't believe that there was a "difference maker" type QB in this draft, but will stick with my belief that this team needed a QB who was able to actually force a decision between Colt and himself and with a lot less work than Sudfiel will require, push Kirk fairly quickly. There were plenty of guys like that in this draft!

Let me ask this of you.....Is it better business for the team, in your opinion, to get value for potential free agents that you intend to replace with a current player, a year early?.... or let things play out, and have them go about their business when their contract ends?

So let me understand. If KC kicks ass this year and now demands 24m a year you are saying cut him loose and let Colt or Nate grab the helms? Do you always wanna be a below 500 team? Money is paid out in this league for QB's. You have to pay to play. You can't just keep drafting players hoping for the next Tom Brady. God help us if they do find that guy,,, we'd have to cut him loose when his contract came up. Draft again and keep looking. Keep looking for the next Tom Brady who will play the position for league minimal throughout his career. Good luck with that.

Nate is a 3rd string insurance policy. Trust me, you don't want Kirk to fail just so we can have this guy or even Colt running the offense just to save a buck.
