Charlie Batch.
Is this a joke? Pretty sure he retired a years ago.
Charlie Batch.
Sanchez' 2014 season, his last real substantial playing time as starter:
- 8 Starts
- 2,418 passing yards
- 14 TDs
- 88.4 rating
Osweiler's 2015 season:
- 8 Starts
- 1,967 passing yards
- 10 TDs
- 86.4 rating
CD beat me to it with the comparison of Sanchez in his rookie year to Osweiler last year, and the fact that that is NOT a fair comparison ... A true rookie QB taking over a team is a lot different than a guy who has become acclimated to the film rooms, the travel, the practices with NFL caliber defenses, the gleaning of info from Peyton Manning for 4 years, etc - it is very very different ..
And I know the "on pace to" or "translates to" thing is very speculative and not an accurate gauge for the most part, but do we realize that Sanchez' numbers under Chip Kelly in 2014 had him on pace to throw for almost 5,000 yards ??
Osweiler has had 4 seasons to improve. I suspect his ceiling isn't nearly as high as some would think.Osweiler has some upside and can get better. Sanchez has reached his "ceiling" so to speak and isn't getting better anytime soon. He's an okay starter for 3-4 games if your starter gets hurt but if he's your opening day starter that's not a good sign imo. He commits a lot of dumb TO's....

But, he
If he was a rookie or in his second year, I might agree. Entering his fifth year, not so much. But, he has just 7 starts. Kind of hard to show what you can do on the bench....Houston will be his time to show what he can do.
Don't recall who I heard talk about this, but a reason the Panthers lost the super bowl was that they were caught in their own success. Unwilling to change a formula that had worked all season long. The Broncos knew exactly what they were going to do... and the paralysis by the coaching staff to change up the formula is a big reason the better team lost IMO. Denver was so flawed, had faced so many trials and tribulations that they had mixed it up all year long rushed 3, blitzed, spread, 2 TEs ... It gave us the edge enough to get ahead and put the pressure squarely on Carolina... Nothing more important in Super Bowls as we saw against Seattle.
The point of that is often this is why teams so rarely repeat. If you are so dominant than yes you can do what Denver did in 97 and 98. But when you have a flawed team like the 00 Ravens or 02 Bucs the Giants carried by unbelievable defensive but... one dimensional. Repeating the formula is a terrible idea. The league would have exploited our weaknesses next year, on top of a tougher schedule and everyone trying to beat the champs. Oz wasn't going to suddenly be an elite qb... So so we were going to need to reinvent ourselves become a more complete team and you can't do that with a wrecked salary cap. Yeah had he signed at a reasonable rate maybe we could have reinvested more in the ol a running game etc. tried to find a reasonable facsimile of an offense, but that didn't happen. I think now the plan is to take a step back so we can build a more sustained winner and it is a good idea... The team was built on the premise of winning one for Peyton/bowlen.
Doesn't mean we are going to suck, it just means you have to be adaptable, build a strong core, and not just think you can stick a team out there with the title of defending super bowl champs... It doesn't work... Pats are the ones who figured it out best and that team has changed so much over the years.. refusing to overpay for their own players other than a few key ones... And by doing so they are constantly reinventing themselves and finding new ways to win. Ok to have a core philosophy, but always allow yourself to adapt and you do that with a healthy salary cap and lots of draft picks... I've watched the Cards the last few years pluck above avg players off free agency right before training camp, rehabbed some other former good now unwanted players... And watched those guys excel. Cheap vets with some left in the tank, lots of draft picks to maximize your odds of hitting and good scouting sand coaching to develop young talent.
My only concern is that most of our young talent was drafted and groomed largely by Fox and Del Rio.... It took Phillips to put all the pieces together, but that is my only concern. Elway will find his guy and we will go from there. Enjoy our amazing season and try not to fret so much about a roster that hasn't even come close to being finalized.

Time will tell though.
Yes. Scouts and coaches do it all the time. It's one reason Tim Tebow is no longer a Bronco, a Jet, a Patriot, or an Eagle. So you can judge somebody off less than a full season or 2 as a starter? Interesting.
Exactly why they couldn't pay him a top 10QB salary - he hadn't shown enough to judge one way or the other. It's a risk either way - paying too much for a guy who might not be a top QB OR letting a guy go who could be in the top 10 - and Denver chose not to take that risk. I happen to agree with that choice. But I can understand the other opinion. So you can judge somebody off less than a full season or 2 as a starter? Interesting.
Tebow was easy to figure out. He couldn't pass. Got to remember too that Oz didn't get many reps with 1st team till this past year. Nobody has Brock figured out yet. Houston will find out now.Yes. appreciation
I agree I think he can be a winner ... I just think going to a team that eats QB's like they do and him stating why he went to Houston made him look like a total loser .. all 4 years here I had a pride he was our QB ..
Then this tape shows up him shoving a young lady makes me kind of wonder ....
Eh, the tape of him shoving that lady is a non-issue. We don't know how that started but from the film that hit the presses Oz seemed to handle it well. I don't have a problem with him pushing the woman away. If a woman were getting in my wife's business I'd do the same thing. Well, no I wouldn't. My wife would probably kick her ass herself. But there's a lot in that video to suggest Oz is a quality guy. He didn't go overboard: He pushed a woman away from his wife. He didn't turn around and deck the guy who blindsided him. I can't say I'd have reacted that cooly. I may have turned around and gone no-holds-barred on him. Lastly and more importantly, he didn't drop that insanely large pizza he was carrying. And that's the biggest takeaway from that little story.
@jdlewis777 that was a great post. I haven't seen you around here until now, though I see you've been with us a couple weeks now. Welcome aboard. If that post is an indicator you increased the collective IQ of the Broncos forum here. And that's saying something because we have some pretty savvy fans who post here. And unfortunately a couple tools as well. In fact the last time the collective IQ of this group jumped by more than 1 standard deviation was when Duffman left.![]()
when Duffman left.
If Oz had dropped that pizza, I would consider him a total loser. But he didn't, he held on. We just lost a good one....
