Foster .... really I am not going to debate with you. Every year you are looking for prize FAs. SM isn't, I am good with that. Apparently you aren't. No offense but I have a lot more confidence in SM and they way he wants to do business. I have seen what free agency has done to this team for many years. Today is a day for over paying. I am glad he is signing his own FAs to reasonable contracts. I prefer that to signing a guy who has thrown 1 career TD pass to a $21 million dollar contract.

um no I don't want big money free agents I want solid starters and Foster is a backup type guy

He started last year. You asked me to name a guy and I just did. Once again SM has said he is not building the team through FA.

I agreed several times so I don't understand your point. SM is not going for the quick fix. As bothered as you are the team won a division title in his first year. He must have a clue.

Not sure we can even count on Duke Inhenacho. He has played 3 games in two years. Not sure why are fans are excited for the signing.

If I was in charge today, I would have signed:

Ben Jones = 4.2 million per year
Jaye Howard = 6 million per year
Jeremy Lane = 2 million per year
Akiem Hicks = 4 million a year

That would have been over 16 million on young, healthy talented starters at Center, NT, DE and Slot CB. Draft would focus on ILB, Safety, RB and WR in earlier round as BPA at position at need. Just my thoughts. 16 million for 4 starters in actually quite good given that 18 million is the going rate for a QB with 5 games experience.

Check this out:

Chase Daniel: 3 yrs, $21M (but could reach $36M with incentives), $12M fully guaranteed
Colt McCoy: 3 yrs, $9M, $1.8M in guaranteed money

If Daniel reaches his incentives, he'll have the same AAV as Bradford.

Wow.

How does stuff like this even happen? Daniel has 77 career pass attempts and somehow 6x the guaranteed money of a proven solid backup QB who has shown he can move our offense. Insane.

I get that we shouldnt build a team solely through the draft - I agree with that. But I think its important that FA puts the finishing touches on an already solid roster. Frankly, we arent at that point yet. Signing FAs this year isnt very important, as long as SMGM continues his quality drafting. We'll get there.

I'm with you. There is a happy medium between doing nothing and Vinny Ceratto...LOL.

I think we could have picked up at least 3 quality decently priced free agents today. I have faith in our GM but the options are dwindling rather quickly and fast. The fact that we don't have any visits lined up is bizarre as well.

I want to build through the draft but you can't base 100% of your team around the draft and thats just the bottom line. Not sure if there is really anyone left that we can afford or that I want to be honest.

Hoping we hit another home run in the draft.

So which three decently paid FAs are you referring?

Jaye Howard didn't sign today did he? He will be closer to 9 mil per season.

Jeremy Lane...you think he signed for 2 mil per season?

I have no idea where you are getting your numbers but I think you are officially insane. Look at the contracts signed today.

NT/DE- We have Chris Baker, Stephen Paea, and RJF. We made a splash here last season and need to see them healthy. We will likely add a DE in the draft.

We resigned Compton and Foster and Riley is returning as of now. We have the draft and day one of FA is never wise to sign.

OLB- We are fine even if we sign nobody.

CB- We are fine here as well.

S- so what was out there to sign?

C- Wisniewski is out there and a strong rookie class.

RB- everybody who signed today was overpaid for this position.

WR- there was and is nothing worth signing.

Breath gents. Free agency just started, and our GM has a plan. It might not give you all the warm and fuzzy's. But we all should have known this wasnt going to be an instant transformation. And not taking short cuts after years of being the biggest players on day one of FA, might have some of us a little nervous.

Personally i think its refreshing.

Absolutely. Do we need to take a stroll down memory lane as a reminder? Fat Al, ARE, Archuleta, Bruce Smith, Trotter, etc, etc. Like they say - sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make.

As you mention - this is just the beginning of free agency & mainly the time for the huge, big name signings. The FO no doubt has a well thought out plan & I certainly trust them more than anyone on this board (no offense).

I agree you build through the draft but you also have to shop smartly in free agency and at the moment we have signed nobody have nobody line up to come here for a interview and the solid pool of free agents is dwindling

Do you have any patience whatsoever? Jeez - you act as if everything has to be done within the first few days of free agency. Do you have that short of a memory to not recall how this approach ruined the Redskins for a very, very long time. Also - do you believe that the Redskins have to strictly build their team for next season only? Amazing.

Good post. As you alluded to the Redskins have some talent in several of these areas. Take the secondary. Some act as if they have to replace almost the entire unit save for 1 or 2 CBs. Remember - several of the younger guys last season gained valuable experience in this area.

Sure - they still need to add safety talent, but it is not as if they need to gut the whole unit. People here often complain about player development for this team. Perhaps they are finally starting to take this to heart and not give up so quickly on younger players. The model in this area is the Packers whose roster by far consists of players drafted and developed internally. I would not mind if this is the primary makeup for this team moving forward.

Jaye Howard - Kansas City Chiefs - 2016 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Howard was 6 million a year.

I read Lane was 2 million a year.

We all could care less what you think Gkekoa. You have been on a self-righteous kick since the ESPN days. Anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot or insane. I swear that you and Bananaman are the same person. Get over yourself!

Jaye Howard stayed at home for 6 mil per season. I asked the question if he resigned and expected 9 mil per season. If he was on the actual open market, he may have been more expensive. It cost 6 mil to KC and would have cost us more. He may not have been worth the money to us.

Lane...I was looking for his numbers and you couldn't find them either. They stayed at home which means it would have cost more to lure them away.

Anybody who wants to keep doing the same thing and expects a different result is an idiot.
