Does McCann have any options left? Both Holaday and Salty are smacking the ball around in early spring games.

McCann is the best defensive catcher on the Tigers by far. He isn't going anywhere.

Moya goes deep: Really, really deep. No estimate was available, but Steven Moya launched an eighth-inning two-run home run Sunday into the construction site beyond right field at Joker Marchant Stadium. Moya's second home run of the spring was hit so hard Ausmus said he didn't even need to look up to know it was gone. "I wasn't worried about where it landed. Just that it went over the wall," Aumus said. "That might have been a car a year ago, in the parking lot out there. It might have been Alfredo Simon's chrome Mercedes."

I was joking.....McCann is the starter. I am hoping he eventually develops into a team leader like Freehan and Parrish did.

Yes, I hope you were. I didn't think you were the kind to make sweeping judgments after one week's worth of early Spring Training at-bats.

Vice....I don't have time today. I've got work around the house to do. (I am not a shut-in)

As for Machado, could I suggest this to you? Do a google search of Dixon Machado Scouting Reports. I know you have the time. Don't stop at one, read five or six. You will see that the consensus is that he is a flashy fielder with a ceiling of a good utility infielder. I had hopes of him being a starting SS, making Iglesias available as a trade chip. Reading the scouting reports - I saw that Machado's ceiling was just another Andrew Romine. Now you have a good day ranting & raving. Try to get by the window and get a little sun if you can. :)

BTW....is Moya getting these bombs off major league pitchers? I recall his first one was off a Yankee AAA pitcher. Too bad there is no room for him on the Tiger roster...unless VMart's body blows up. I can't see him replacing Maybin for a week or two at the start of the season....kind of a defensive liability in the OF, can't be used as a PR or anything. Kind of a shame....he could clout 5-6 homers this spring, and unless there is an injury, it is "Hello, Toledo".

In the ST game I saw, Machado made a brilliant play and threw out a guy at 1B while sitting on his ass. It was a joy to watch. That said, he has to show he can hit minor league pitching a little better before I see him being a big-league starter.

Without dragging our current SS thru the mud, I'll just say, I think Machado has a long career ahead of him. But he hasn't reached his ceiling.

Today I am VERY positive about this team. Hope I feel the same October 1st.

If the big three starters (JV, Zimmermann, Sanchez) are healthy this season and the bullpen is at least average, I feel good about the Tigers. Scoring runs shouldn't be a problem.

I'm a Iggy homer....Maybe it's because we havnt had defense at that position since the 80s.....If Machado can't hit better then Iggy then he can be traded or wait till Kinsler is on his last leg.

Will 85 wins be enough to win the AL Central? I don't see any awful team in the Central...but I don't see one without some sort of flaw that might hold them back from gaining the 90+ win plateau. The Indians have a good rotation, but their offense (outside of Bradley and Linfor) might be the worst in the division, or at least close to it. The White Sox have a couple of good starters (Sale/Quintana) and a couple of good hitters (Abreu/Eaton) and then fall off from there. The Twins have potential in young stars like Sano, Rosario and Buxton but poor pitching. The Royals won't have the season they had last year, considering the loss of some key players. Detroit seems to have the best offense, but their pitching (and health) are a worry. I see a division of parity. In fact....I think the entire AL is one of parity, with no real powerhouses (NL has the Cubs, Giants) but no rebuilding soft spots (Phillies, Reds). So could the Tigers win 85 games and get a playoff spot by winning their division?

(I think the biggest roadblock the Tigers face is the prediction by a certain "Prognosticator" on this board that the Royals will not make the playoffs. The same prediction he has made for the last two years! I was actually hoping he would pick the Royals to win it all this year.....giving the Tigers [and other teams?] a chance.)

Why not mention Moya's OTHER stats? Or Jacoby Jones' problems? Or the fact that Machado's fielding wasn't rated strongly at AAA last year or that his lifetime minor league BA is under .250

And this everybody shows iffy is a lying troll.

Anyone here that is impressed by iffy has a pretty low bar.
