Washington was worried about Eagles making a run at Kirk Cousins

This is the first I've heard about this but it's certainly not surprising. And, hey, I previously raised this too. :-). This ought to put to rest all issues on using the franchise tag on Cuz and the fact the no team would've signed him. It also shows what the Eagles think of the relative worth between Cuz and Bradford, as it that was an issue to begin with.

This part of the article is all you need to read to dismiss the entire article:

Per a league source, Washington was concerned that the Eagles would make a run at Cousins

Here we go again - putting stock into an unknown source. For all we know Florio or one his friends/relatives could be the source. Even if true it could simply be a matter of one of the Redskins execs being paranoid about the Eagles signing Cousins with no basis. Redskins could have also floated this rumor out there to help justify their move. By no means does this mean that the Eagles were making a serious run at Cousins.

In the end I don't think that this matters since the Redskins & Cousins have been serious all along & both likely want to agree on a pretty fair # which I believe that they will before the season starts.

I agree that it may not matter in the end, but Mark Eckel, an Eagles beat reporter for NJ.com, came on WIP this morning and confirmed what PFT was reporting. He, in fact, stated that there was mutual interest between the Eagles and Cousins. The Eagles interest in Cuz started back in 2012 when then (and now current) GM Howie Roseman coveted Cousins. However, when it came time to drafting a young QB that season, it came down to Cousins and Nick Foles. Then HC Andy Reid and OC Marty Morninweg stood on the table for Foles and, because Reid had veto power on draft decisions, Roseman's push for Cuz got squashed.

Could the Eagles have outbid us for Cuz? Think it about this way: before signing Bradford, they had about $30M in cap space. The Eagles gave Bradford about $18M in dollars actual this year, which is not far off from what Kirk is getting under the franchise tag. As a result, the Eagles could've, at the very least, definitely made things interesting.

All of which makes franchising Kirk the clear choice here.

How some reporters get away with getting things so wrong is beyond me. Ian Rappoport was asked about his story regarding the transition tag and it was awfully awkward.

Then, there are others like Chris Russell who believed that the Redskins shouldv'e gone with the transition tag.
