Well, Jim Delaney has an outsized, possessive affection for "Big Ten," even though his conference hasn't been ten members since 1989. He never responded to my suggestion that he rename the conference the "Big Tough Conference," even though doing so would preserve the "BTN" brand. Maybe, he sensed the merry mischief in my suggestion... :D

If the Big 12-2 isn't going to expand back to 12 teams, should it rename itself?
What names would you suggest?

They still have the rights to the name Big 8, so when Oklahoma and Texas leave, they can transition into that.

Should the SEC change their name? With Texas a&m and mizzou, they're not really just a south east conference anymore? Maybe "SAC" southernish athletic conference.

Well, flaggers would argue that Missourians did not join the Union cause and Texans fought under the banner of the St. Andrews cross...

The Big 10? and make the other the Big 14?

I don't disagree but I think the have branded the initials to the point it doesn't matter really what they stand for. My biggest compliant is you try to google something SEC and you have to more detailed or you get Security Exchange Commission pages.

The Big 10 I think has started a move towards branding "B1G" which for me works.
Maybe the Big 12 should go with BTC and just brand the initials.

3rd tier Network money:

SEC teams made about 5 million.
ACC made ZERO.
PAC-12 teams made about 1 million.
Big 10 teams made somewhere between 2-3 million I am guessing as it is tougher to figure out.

So, we are talking 2 million at best case scenario...which seems blindly optimistic for a Big 12 network.
I highly doubt we could even beat the ACC and PAC numbers.

Almost Half the Big 12 already do 3 times better than that on their own (Texas, KU, ISU, WVU).
Why the hell would Texas take a 13 million dollar pay-cut to stick around in a shaky Big 12.

And why would Kansas and WVU do the same thing either??
I guarantee the Jayhawks and Mountaineers vote a VERY LOUD NO as well.

No school on the planet would do it either......

All your points are valid but you have to admit that Texas has a sizable income competitive advantage right now. People are starting to get pissed because they can't close that gap. I think you're under selling the value of a Big 12 network but launching now would be extremely tough but I'm not sure Kansas and WV would be a "very loud no" without potential numbers to look at.

I feel ya but.... WVU president Gee is on board as well..
West Virginia president says Big 12 expansion to 12 schools is 'most likely'

Boren says the people he has talked to say expansion is the way to go and has apparently won Gee as well as others on it:noidea:.

Maybe they are figuring in the CCG boost with 12 and some reduced travel costs?

Something just isn't adding up or the whole truth isn't being told by someone for whatever reason.
