It's all in my master plan...

I got one of those too, with Wilbur Wood in my bullpen... I feel like he gets more respect there even though he had some of the best seasons of all time as a starter...

It is always interesting to see everyone's thoughts about old time players like Babe adams compared to newer players... I almost went with a couple pre 1920s pitchers... But second guessed myself... It is amazing how we consider Walter Johnson, Cy Young and Christy Mathewson so great but forget about others who played at the same time...
I think it's about how you rank historically. Babe Ruth was considered the very best player of all time. Gehrig one of the best. A guy like Harry Heilmann isn't known at all to most people, but he was a stud. It's hard to take him though, over guys that were considered top 4-5 of their era, be it 60's, 80's or whatever if he wasn't considered top 4-5 in his own

Well, for you maybe, lolzzz

that's possible, and don't get me wrong, thinking I have the best team in the mock and thinking I had a perfect draft is 2 totally different things...

Well, IMO what kills heilman is that he wasn't a power bat, playing first base and not being a HR threat is not good when being compared to the other greats... but the problem is that we have been using some of these pre 1920s as top of the order guys because there numbers show it to be, but in fact they should be middle of the lineup guys if they played in more modern parks...

Well, I was kidding but to be honest if you are deciding on players because of all star appearances you aren't going to have the best team/draft.

I can care less about all-stars... Just mentioned it there to show perception...

I vote for teams who have football players on their baseball team :suds:

I go by how they were viewed by their peers. I'll give you an example Nos can appreciate, and recalls the debate you and I had a while back......

40 years from now, some guys will be holding an NFL mock and someone is gonna draft Emmitt Smith, who, because of the rules favoring the pass now, May still be the all time rushing leader 50 years running. They will claim they got the greatest of his era at minimum, but older guys who saw them both play will tell you AP was a superior player, even if he has 4000 yards less. And they will be right.
For 50 years after he was gone, people who saw Babe Ruth play said he was without a doubt the best hitter ever. Those same people saw Mantle and Joe D, etc. So when people from that era and later on say a Johnson or Mathewson was the best they've seen, I defer to folks that actually saw them play

I personally liked Babe Adams because his ERA was Solid and Whip was fantastic. Without seeing him play I liked what those stats portrayed. I also read up on him and it said he was known for his fantastic control, and I like that. Ball placement is critical to me.

I do my best e'ry time to help remind people of the other greats from way back when. But e'rytime I get the only lefty to K 300 batter before Koufax.
