Trade Rumors

Well with the trade deadline tomorrow there are some trade rumors circulating for the Broncos.

The two big names that keep popping up are from the Browns in Joe Thomas and Alex Mack.

For quite a while the Broncos were linked to just about every TE out there but with this past game I doubt they look at that position. They like this new guy they brought in giving them some freedom to really use the 2-TE sets with Green and Daniels.

I would say the RB rumors like that of Forte are done as well. So OL looks like the one area especially at the LT spot that I could see them possibly going. Joe Staley is another name I keep hearing mentioned.

My guess though is the Broncos do nothing. The team is coming off a dominating performance where there were not really many weaknesses. Don't want to mess with team chemistry at this point.

Yeah me too Cd. Especially if Daniels or Green were to go down with so many games left. It certainly gives the team more versatility for sure. If we get a much inspired Davis with a shot at ring.

The Broncos offered the Browns a 1st round pick to get Joe Thomas. So no they are not done. Looks like Elway is getting very aggressive.

From the sound of it the Browns are asking for a 1st round pick plus more for the rights to Joe Thomas. I honestly wouldn't mind. My guess is OL would have been high on the Broncos list again next year for the draft. Joe Thomas cap wise isn't making any more than what Clady would make next year so cut Clady and have an All-Pro LT signed for the next 3 seasons beyond this one at a decent price. Let's us have Sambrailo on the right side to lock that down. I don't know what else we give up though. Maybe 1st round pick and Latimer? He doesn't have a ton of value but if the Browns had a high value on Latimer during the draft maybe I could see it.

The Broncos didn't even think about it and just said NO! Glad they didn't make that trade. Barrett is playing at a Pro Bowl level at a premium position on a very cheap contract. That is the dream for a team. Barrett himself is like throwing in an extra 1st round pick to the deal.

Essentially the Browns are wanting 2 1st round picks so to them they view Barrett as equal value to a 1st round pick. That is pretty high praise and again why the Broncos can't make that trade. I think this is one of those situations that Elway digs in and says here is our final offer of a 1st and 4th round pick and then waits to see if the Browns will bite. I can't see them getting better value considering Thomas' contract.

I'm glad Elway said no on that too. Thomas is a nice player, but he ain't getting any younger. Harris is playing solid football too, but we are razor thin at that position now

I'm really hoping this deal gets done. I mean can you imagine Thomas next to Mathis. One stat that I saw was that this year Ryan Harris has a negative grade (according to PFF) in 6 of the 7 games this season. Thomas has negative grades in 5 games over the last 3 years combined. So yes it would be a huge upgrade at probably our weakest position on the team right now. How much of the future do you want to give up though to get such a player? The nice thing is he would be in Denver beyond this year with still I think 3 years beyond this year still left on his deal at a very reasonable rate with no guaranteed money so if he goes down hill like Clady has then you can cut him with no dead money.

Also have to remember good chance if we get him our 1st round pick is in the late 20's to early 30's. So really just comes down to the other part of the deal of who or what are we willing to give up to get him. Remember good chance the Broncos have an extra 3rd, 4th, and 6th round pick in this upcoming draft from the comp picks.

Also just something else to remember is say we do get Vernon Davis this year and then let him walk after this season and he goes and gets a decent size contract if he does well here good chance the Broncos get back the 6th round pick next year as a comp pick. Elway really is a genius when it comes to this FO business.

I'd be willing to give up a first and a third for Thomas. He's a huge upgrade at a position of need, and you'd have him for 3 more years. He's a HoF caliber left tackle and those don't exactly grow on trees.
