Probably would be best to just let go of the ex-Padre we just picked up.

I don't see much hope in Stubbs. Might as well keep Straus. Now if they do get Austin Jackson then maybe he is the guy who replaces Straus.
The only positive I see out of Stubbs is he has MLB experience. But just not sure what we would really get out of him so you may be right. Our best bet and I know it is a long shot is to get Hamilton back. He has been the most productive out there when playing. And we also need for Venable to help out.

This is what is so irritating with Scheppers. His control.

RHP Tanner Scheppers allow two runs in the 10th inning on the combination of a hit, a walk and two wild pitches for a 7-5 loss to Salt Lake (Los Angeles Angels.)

The Rangers have struggled on replay reviews this season with only 15 of 39 challenges turning in their favor. The Rangers did win a ninth-inning challenge Wednesday at first base on a play on which Nauert initially ruled that Donaldson had beaten the back end of a double play relay. Upon further review, it was determined that pitcher Anthony Bass caught the ball just before Donaldson’s foot hit the bag.

And this from Fraley:

Since he's been noticeably more cold than hot since hitting Round Rock, What do you think of the idea that Gallo gets shut down in September? Rangers have a pelthora of left handed hitters already, it's been a whirlwind season already for Joey and if - by some miracle, this ends up as the Rangers' year, that he was on the ML roster for a couple of months means he gets jewelry. I say let him take the time off, clear his head and enjoy life.

That is an excellent idea. Have to weigh that against the club's desire to have every possible resource during the final month to get in the playoffs.

I believe we're now 16 of 40. And I meant to ask, anyone know what is average, and/or where the Rangers rank?

More from Fraley:

Surely ownership wouldn't agree to these other big contracts if they thought they didn't have the resources to resign Yu Darvish, right? They have to have a separate piggy bank ready for Yu's next contract.

Cannot be certain about that. Maybe, and this is only a guess, they are already getting the feel that Darvish wants to go elsewhere and see no reason to hold back resources. Again, only a guess.

For me, I've wondered this for over a year. But like the man said, it's only a guess.

What's Cole Hamels like off the mound?

Single-minded toward his craft. Learned that from Roy Halladay with the Phillies. Hamels has a demanding workout routine, and he does not change it for anything.

Here is a convoluted answer by Fraley. This is what drives me crazy about Fraley and especially Evan. They often address the subject without addressing the actual question. The question is about whether Choo and Andrus recent good play would make the Rangers want to keep them or if it would help the Rangers to trade them due to their value being increased. Gerry completely ignores that aspect of the question. His answer is hard to understand in itself because he really doesn't explain how the team's financial resources play into this. Shouldn't concern for their financial resources make them more likely to trade them?

With Choo/Andrus picking it up are they more likely to be traded this offseason because they have more value or are they less likely because the Rangers want to keep them?

Very good question. An important one for the Rangers' offseason meetings. Given the club's financial resources, my guess is they are less likely to be traded. The Rangers do have to clear payroll space if they are to re-sign Yu Darvish. He won't be such a team bargain on the next contract.

Rangers recall Nick Martinez, option Spencer Patton to Triple-A

The Rangers recalled pitcher Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. He will be available out of the bullpen starting Thursday against the Blue Jays.

To clear a roster spot, pitcher Spencer Patton was optioned to Triple-A.

Rangers 2B Rougned Odor sidelined again Thursday

Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor was held out of the starting lineup for a second straight game Thursday against the Blue Jays due to a finger injury. Hanser Alberto started in Odor's absence again.

Odor is batting .349 with a .542 slugging percentage and .907 OPS in his last 22 games. He has one triple, three home runs, five doubles, nine RBI, 11 runs, one walk, 10 strikeouts and no stolen bases in that span.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Nick struggle in an unfamiliar role.

Well Patton was not getting it done, not surprised to see him go

That's true. It just doesn't seem like bringing up a starter is the best way to go if you need a bullpen piece.

We needed someone who could handle multi-innings if need be. Plus, Patton can be recalled in 6 days anyway.

I hope when he's recalled, that he is not used in any high leverage situations. Spencer has not been very good

No he certainly hasn't. And I really thought he would be a key contributor this season. He's 27 so hopefully there's more to come in a positive way.

So he went from possibly having a fairly quick inning, to throwing at least 20 pitches now
