Hey! SB is on the line, we have the most punishing RB in football and the most mobile QB in football. I have a great idea! Let's throw a timing pattern over the middle short of the end zone! Fucking genius!!!

And I forgot one thing! Let's do it out of the shotgun so the defense has time to get a running start at the ball! You call that play under center if you have Big Ben who can stand real tall and basically hand him the ball. You don't have Russell Wilson try to do that.

Calls 2-10 would all be from the Packers in the GB-SEA game played earlier in the playoffs. That was a pretty epic choke

There are worse Seattle related calls than that one.
Calling Rick Meier's name with the 2nd pick in the draft.
Calling Aaron Curry's name with the 4th pick in the draft.
Calling Dan Mcguires name in the 1st round.
Howard Schultz returning the call from the carpetbagger in Oklahoma.
Calling Lou Pinella into the office to let him know his services were no longer needed by the Mariners.

For any that care, the OP is confirming that Seattle lost the SB instead of NE winning it.
That is a new chip on the shoulder of the Seahawks. They tend to like to have as big of a chip as possible to use for motivation. That call in SB49 provided the chip they seek.
What about this one!

Yep. Bad call.

Worst call in NFL history? No.

They were under the assumption that they could hand it to Lynch next play and the play after.

It was certainly one of the most visible calls with the most on the line. Certainly one of the poorest calls ever in such circumstances.

What this is is a late July article by a writer desperate for anything to talk about. Always a lack of real NFL news this time of year unless you count player arrests.

This play was a function of the no time out call from Bill. I was screaming time out! but BB knew what he was doing in the end. They likely would have run Lynch next if they had more time. A time out likely would have cost the Patriots the game.

No, the play was a function of Bevell not knowing the strengths and weaknesses of his own fucking offense. I've seen them try to run that play before with the exact same result. The guy's clueless. He has no concept of game situation and will make the same call whether it's half way through the first quarter in the preseason vs. that.

You can argue that it was the wrong call but this claim that Bevell doesn't know his offense is absurd.

The Seahawks were woefully poor at goal line situations. Marshawn is an exceptional running back because he is one of the best at breaking a tackle but he can't break 3 tackles behind the line which is what often happened in those situations.

Agree, it was a pretty bad call. ? as well does Graham become a Seahawk if the Seahawks won the Super Bowl?

Perfectly said, I have been saying the same thing on here since the call. The way his legs are so wide that once he gets some separation, its tough to wrap him up. They showed the stats somewhere, where he was on short yard situations and it was below .500 .300 comes to mind, but just off top of head. Wilson had a better shot to do a QB sneak or just scramble and run it in. The middle is tough to run up on Pats, esp with Wilfork there, he stopped Lynch's last 3rd and one.

Whats the context here? As far as I can tell, you couldn't be more wrong.

According to Football Outsiders, Seattle had a power rank of 78% last year which was 2nd in the NFL and 6th best at not being 'stuffed' for negative yards. The power rank also includes Wilson's ability to scramble but clearly they were elite at converting short yardage last year which is something they weren't elite at in previous years most likely due to a more inconsistent and unhealthy oline in previous years.

New England had a power rank with their defense of 81% conversion for the other team which was 32nd in the NFL. They only 'stuffed' opponents for negative yards 16% of the time which was 28th in the league.

Its the worst call in the history of the NFL.

Lynch was given the ball 5 times on the 1. He scored 1 time. While that is a small sample size, there was significant risk involved failing. If we accept an 80% failure rate, that means most likely the Seahawks would need to burn their one timeout. Now its 3rd down and they would HAVE to throw the ball.

Power rating is a much broader rating.

The Hawks were one yard away from winning back to back SBs. He's Marshawn Lynch. Ray Rice's haymaker wouldn't have stopped him.

The Bears missed the playoffs because our coach decided to try a 47 yard kick on Second Down in overtime. It makes Pete Carroll look like a fucking genius.
