Looks like the trade kicker is $2.3M bonus the Pacers pay Hibbert that affects the Lakers cap. The deal won't be done until July 9 but both clubs are working to reduce the cap hit the Lakers will take.

Hey everyone, allow me to chime in. Long time Laker fan in IN. Please don't give up to much for Hibbert. Man has/had tons of untapped potential but never really lived up to potential 2011/2012 may have been best year. He should easily be a 15+ point and 10+ board per game player. Living in IN I've been really disappointed in his overall effort to excel. If they can get him for a second round pick, that would be good. Maybe change of scenery may be trick??

We can only hope. Not counting on anything other than a one season career with the Lakers. Maybe in his 20th season, Kobe can show Hibbert what effort is.

We'll see what it ends up as.

If second rounders are all it takes to get Hibbert, I think it's a great move. Let's not forget the 2nd round pick that landed us Clarkson was bought from Washington for $1.8m - teams are always willing to sell their picks.

Hibbert is a good defender is that is exactly what the team needs right now.

I think Stephen A might be right. Something mentally has happened to Hibbert and he may just need a fresh start with a franchise like the Lakers. Maddog Madsen gets a hold of this guy, things may change for him.

Wouldn't this shut those pundits up that think playing in LA isn't so glamorous anymore? A guy comes in, coached up by Maddog and has a solid year!!!

I am thinking the same thing Louie. With our traditions with big centers and with guys like Kobe, Black, Upshaw, and Madsen working with Hibbert, he may just have a good year. If not, we still may have fixed our porous in-the-paint defense with his wide body.

Looks as though Kosta Kofous ‘On Radar’ For L.A. In Free Agency. Don't know if this is still possible with the signing of Hibbert.

Just getting in....quick thoughts on the hibbert deal. 1.) I don't mind it as it's an expiring contract. 2.) This year is about developing the young talent anyways so anything we get from Hibbert is a plus. 3.) I don't really have that big of expectations for Hibbert as it seems that he has fallen off the face of the earth the last few years. I can see him being serviceable at best, being a good rim protector, and contributing here and there on offense. Basically, since the year is lost anyways(outside of watching 3'Angelo and J&J), I don't mind taking on an expiring contract

Rumors are Lakers are giving up cash and a future second round pick for him. I don't like giving up picks to eat a ton of salary.

Depending on how far in the future, losing that 2nd round pick may not be a big deal. If it's something like a 2017 or later pick, it should hopefully be a late 2nd rounder.

If, as reported, both the Lakers and Pacers are looking to lower the Lakers cap hit, they may be able to get it low enough to squeeze him in. Plus, he's been playing behind Gasol. His salary last year was only $3 million. Maybe he'll come to the Lakers on a shorter deal for maybe $5-6 million and a chance to earn a bigger deal?

Yea, TJF12, that is what the two teams are doing working around the holiday week-end. Reported the deal won't be done until the end of the week. Kofous would be a nice addition. Word is he is a very good back-up. So our bigs picture would change a bit. Looks as though the Hill and Kelly experiments may be over. Moreso for Hill. Kelly may be back. Right now, we will have Hibbert, Sacre, Upshaw, and Kofous.

Still don't think the Lakers are going to make the playoffs but with Hibbert and maybe Koufos, they could at least be competitive. That can at least hold me over until a year or two from now when the Lakers should be in contention.

Koufos signs with Sacremento. 4 years, $33 million. We can't afford both he and Hibbert. So that means Kelly will probably be back. That leaves Hibbert, Sacre, Upshaw, Black, and Kelly.

The Hibbert deal is a no lose situation for LA. We struck out on almost literally every player worth a damn from A levels to serviceable starters so it doesn't matter if he chews up cap space. It's only for a year and we gave almost nothing for him. He isn't close to what he was 2 years ago (which given his entire career looks like a fluke run), but if by some magic he finds his form, he can be resigned. Plus, LA can go over the cap next season to keep him if need be because I think we get his Bird Rights (not sure on this) so we can pursue any free agent we want and still bring him back at a big price if he earned it. Or he totally stinks and you cut ties with nothing lost. There is no bad scenario here

Which SF should the Lakers go after? Once they get one I think the roster is pretty much set.

Or Skip getting a SF and put Randle there and get a PF?

I saw that too. as much as I hate Stephen A. he could be onto something. maybe it IS psychological...

If they can stay healthy and if Hibbert can at least improve the interior defense, then the Lakers should be able to flirt with the 8 spot for most of the season (assuming Randle and Russell can actually play) before ultimately missing out.

Just breaking, haven't seen contract details, but Lou Williams and LA agreed to some sort of deal. Good player. He's what Nick Young could have been had he bothered to care about being a professional.
