This is based on politics that happened in the early 90s. Nobody knows how it would go down today. Ann Richards isnt stepping up anytime soon

But Ken Starr will sho-nuff SUE yerass if you don't make with them Mint Juleps

But the Big Ten ALREADY had all those sets in the NYC market, because of all those alumni I mentioned who live here. This is also true of the SEC and ACC, not sure about the PAC or Xii.

Rutgers did not deliver any TV market to the league that wasn't already established.
No but Rutgers games are played all over the place in NY. They also are a pretty solid academic institution. Kansas offers neither of these things. From a shear volume standpoint, KC just can't compete.

I see what you're saying man. I do. But uhm... It's 14 teams right now. I mean the PAC was smart and changed the name so there was no retardedness.

PAC10->PAC12
Big10->Big14
Big12->SWC
So when does the SEC make a name change? Are Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas, Missouri all in the southeast?

I think having a school in the area means that they can charge cable providers more for the Big Ten Network. Like the whole discussion about the Longhorn Network, and how they can only charge pennies on the dollar outside of the state of Texas. At least when Nebraska was coming in to the Big Ten, cable providers around here had to add BTN to basic cable packages (and pay more for the chance to). It was part of the deal.

That all sound good but why wouldn't the BIG go after Oklahoma and Texas instead of Kansas.
That would make more sense to most of us. However, Texas probably would want special considerations. Kansas would be better for basketball.

Kentucky & Arkansas are, at least culturally and in terms of SAT scores and bad teeth.

What? Too soon?

So that's what is meant by "giving a league a TV market?" Simply being able to gouge the locals???

Fuck football!

Most as in networks. Off the top of my head, this is how I think it breaks down. If I'm wrong, sorry just correct me

Pac 12-Fox, Fox sports 1, Fox sports, ABC, ESPN, 2, U, pac 12 network

Big 12-Fox, Fox sports 1, Fox sports, ABC, ESPN, 2, U, team networks

SEC-CBS, ESPN, 2, U, SEC network (do they play on CBS sports network)

Big-ABC, ESPN, 2, U, Big ten network

ACC-ABC, ESPN, 2, U

Geez,I wonder how few people would watch the PAC 12 and the Big 12 if those conferences were not on so many networks.

Let me clarify something about Oklahoma politics. OU and Okie Jr. are always described as a "package deal". Don't believe it if the shit ever hits the fan. David Boren has a LOT more political pull in Oklahoma than Burns Hargis (Jr.'s President). OU has the law school. OU has the medical hospital and medical school. OU has the largest number of big money donors in the state. OU has the more powerful political figures in the state in its corner. The governor is a Jr. alum but her political star is in decline. OU has the majority of the state's oil and gas graduates. OU has the far superior athletic program. OU has a far bigger donor base and endowment fund. Jr. has a pitiful endowment fund because its graduates (with the exception of T. Boone Pickens) are generally lower income and are not big givers to their school. (Tulsa's endowment is almost TWICE as large as Jr.'s!)

If OU ever decides to shed Jr. it will cause a lot of hard feelings but, bottom line, OU would be able to do it.

Pac 16

Northwest division
Washington
WSU
Oregon
OSU
Stanford
Cal
USC
UCLA

Southwest division
AZ
ASU
Utah
Colorado
Texas
tech
Baylor
TCU

Original Pac schools in 1 division, with cali as a recruiting base. Southwest division has Texas as a main recruiting base, and this conference has so many major TV markets its scary. the SEC takes West Virginia and Okie light, ACC gets their choice of Iowa State, k state, or UConn. Everybody wins.

One thing everyone needs to keep in mind: the population shift of this country. The population is moving south, southwest, west.

That's where the numbers will be.

So...the Xii should jump all over New Mexico and NMSU?

Personally, I'd rather go to the SEC.
Oklahoma/Florida State to the SEC to make it 16.
Make it happen

uh, you got me there.

However, I worked in an industry that followed population trends and studied them. The population shift has been going on for 20 years or so. Not really sure what that means, other than that basically people are moving to those areas.

I should also include the coasts, so B1G gets in on some of that with Rutgers, Maryland.

Those Big 10 dudes are very snobby about AAU membership in order to be able to play football for some reason.

Heck, they are still trying to deal with the shame and embarassment of Nebraska being booted from the AAU immediately upon joining the Big 10.

Hey that was Texas' fault. Yall stopped doing Nebraska's homework when they left the Big12.
