does nd have any say because I cant see them signing off on him going to their opening wk opponent ?
If I had my druthers, players who transfer with a degree in hand should be free agents. But my guess is that standing rules (or other powers that be) will prevent him from transferring to any school that is on Notre Dame's schedule.

That said, while I think it would be rude to transfer to an opponent, I think it is a choice that should reside with the player by virtue of having completed the main objective of attending a school to begin with - to get a degree.

Right, all kids should be forced to ride the pine their entire career until they have their degree, then they can transfer to another school for a chance to play.
If a kid attends college ONLY to play football, and not to earn a degree, then there is a bigger problem than transfer rules. the point of going to college is to get a degree. That's why student athletes who transfer before earning degrees have to sit out a year.

A degree makes all the moral difference.
yup. Sure does. Of course, you are talking about something different than I am.

Because you know, that silly law that prevents them from getting one at the school they just transferred too.
This sentence no point.

Some people go to college only to become doctors, some people go to college to learn art, some only to dance. Some only to learn how to make movies , some only to learn code and most would leave before they graduated if they were able to get a high paying job. The ones who are there just for the degree are usually the ones with no actual skills and find work only because they get hired from alumni . So spare me on the degree. And don't look down on a kid with athletic skill who wants to make football a career.
The baseball minor leagues are full of white kids with no degree who are there chasing a dream but you guys put down football players who do the same. [/QUOTE]

I know this may come as a shock, especially since you thought my last sentence had no point. But sit down for this, and make sure you have someone there to hold your hand.

They can still get a degree at the school they transfer too.

But please, continue telling me how you wouldn't let these kids be free to make their own decisions about these things because you need some moral authority jerk off.

This makes no sense. How does anyone get into med school (if they are hoping to be a doctor) without getting an undergraduate degree first? And certainly, there are many walks of life that do not require college degrees to pursue - many of them are even offered as degree programs in college!

And I do think you make a good point - there is a difference between getting a degree and getting an education. However, the metric of having finished a course of study, and thus the completion of an education, is a college degree.

And don't look down on a kid with athletic skill who wants to make football a career.
I don't. If a kid wants to make a career out of being an NFL player, than I wish him the best of luck. I also do not begrudge a kid who uses college as a stepping stone toward that end. I just think they should be working toward a degree, or they should not be in college - because that is what college is for.
The baseball minor leagues are full of white kids with no degree who are there chasing a dream but you guys put down football players who do the same.
And I am all for a developmental league for football as well. People who have no interest in getting an education have no business taking up space in colleges.

Okay - but the next time I tell you that will be the first time. But you are free to believe as you wish.

This right here is me. I started going to college to become a programmer. I found a job doing what I was going to school for(I already knew how to do the job) and didn't have any reason to go to college after that.

Still doing the same job over 15 years later.

Ah, so you just want to thumb your nose at them while they do it.

Got it.

It does make sense. You want to be a doctor youre required to get the degree before you can get into Med school. If given a choice and it wasnt required then they would just go to Med school. Their goal isn't to earn a degree its to become a doctor. Flim school students goal isn;t the degree its the education. People who go to college just for a degree are like i said the ones at the office who got hired because they went to the sane college as the boss. So like baseball players many football players are not there for the degree they are there to play football . Like it or not. Some decide they better get that degree some dont. But don't act like it's sort of crime to be there for something other than the degree. I know plenty of people who went to learn a specific skill and left before graduating.

How did me being critical of coaches who oversign turn into thumbing my nose at players? I'm confused.

So you think the coaches are the ones who decide they transfer?

I'll just leave this here . . .

Everett Golson said:
"After much thought, prayer and discussion with my family, I have decided that it is in my best interest to graduate from Notre Dame and transfer to another school effectively immediately," Golson said in the statement released to FoxSports.com. "I would like to thank everyone at Notre Dame for the opportunity to compete at the highest level of college football, but most importantly to obtain my degree from one of the finest universities in the country."

Take that with a grain of salt. Having graduated is the only way he could transfer to another school and play without missing a year. He had academic issues as a freshman he cheated and had to miss a year two seasons later so color me cynical that he's all about the degree. He might be buttering up his future ND alumni boss.

I give him credit for coming back to nd when he got booted instead taking off like most kids would. the more I think about it, the more I wish he could/would transfer to texas and light their asses up open night. lifelong fan but Brian Kelly's ego makes it hard to cheer for this team

Golson won't visit South Carolina Monday

Notre Dame quarterback transfer Everett Golson may very well visit South Carolina soon, but per a source, the chances of him visiting the Gamecocks Monday are highly unlikely.

There are several reasons why.

-The paperwork for Golson's release from the Fighting Irish has not been physically received by the University of South Carolina, therefore Golson technically cannot even be contacted by the Gamecocks staff, much less go on a visit.

-South Carolina is still in the process of looking into if Golson is even eligible to transfer to a Southeastern Conference program due to the league bylaw below.

"Because Golson was suspended during the 2013 season, for what he called “poor academic judgement,” whichever school in the SEC he chooses would have to submit a waiver to the league office. SEC bylaw 14.1.15.1, part d, clarifies the conference’s rules for graduate student exceptions: They may receive financial aid, practice and compete … so long as “the student-athlete has not been subject to official university or athletics department disciplinary action at any time during enrollment at any previous collegiate institution.”

-Because there can be no contact, there has not been any sort of logistical planning on the part of the South Carolina staff in terms of having the coaching staff on campus. Currently, it's the middle of the spring evaluation period and the assistant coaches are on the road. Therefore, even if the paperwork and waiver situation were clear (there is virtually no chance that this gets done by Monday given that it is Friday), there haven't been any plans made to host the quarterback.

Bottom Line

There is definite interest in Golson on the part of the Gamecocks, but sources said Friday afternoon that the South Carolina coaching staff is "very high" on Connor Mitch given the progress that he's made this offseason and that in three months once he goes through summer workouts, they anticipate he will improve even more.

We are told Golson could visit later next week if the proper releases have been received.

South Carolina is a great move, he did so well against SEC defenses.

Why doesn't he just transfer to Texas Tech cause I'm sure the Red Raiders need a QB.
