Yeah. The Cowboys got a steal here. The only future problem could be his conduct off the field later on in his career. Although he probably didn't kill his ex-girlfriend, it foreshadows crimes to come.

and you base that on what..a flawed crystal ball?

If Dallas' line is as good as advertised, he really can't improve it much at all.
Actually, he can improve the team by a long shot. Even if he starts out on the bench, it gives the Cowboys the ability to withstand any one major injury to the OL this year. Because Zach Martin can also play C and OT, and Collins can play OT or OG, the Cowboys can shuffle and stay 5 strong no matter who went down. Also, it allows Dallas to part ways with Free's big cap number next year, just as drafting Johnson means Carr will be gone, and drafting Gregory means the Cowboys won't keep Hardy past this year. In other words, the Cowboys will be younger, talented, and free up a ton of cap space if the picks pan out

Best part of signing Collins is that it seems to tick Cali off and irritating a Foreskin fan allways gives me a chuckle.

seeing Carr go away would be my favorite part. I think you mean Byron Jones, not Johnson?

I think the better solution would be to cut Carrs pay and dump Clayborne.

What? It was rated as one of the deepest Oline drafts in years.

There were a lot of them but the quality was completely lacking. Anyone drafting OL in the 1st or 2nd round were getting much worse prospects than if they used the same pick on the position in previous years.

Collins actually is a perfect example of the type of prospect in this draft. Played college LT and he has NO CHANCE at sticking at that position and being above average there. He just doesn't have that type of ability. Hell none of the OT's taken in the first round have much of a shot of being average LT's at the next level.

In most drafts teams are taking legit LT prospects early and that pushes your RT's and OG prospects down the board. There were almost no LT prospects in this draft so teams were taking RT prospects in the top 10 which is damn near unheard of.

The NFL falls prey to group think all the time and this draft is the perfect example. You had teams looking at how teams like the Cowboys took OL early in previous years and it paid off for them. So this year teams just took the next best OL on the board because they had the need and hope it works the same for them. And a lot of teams, especially the ones that took OL in the 1st round, are going to come away disappointed IMO. They used a 1st round pick on guys that, even if it pans out, needs to be their 2nd or 3rd most talented OL on the team for them to have a quality OL.

In all honesty, who cares how he stacks up compared to other years first rounders? If he's better than any of the guys currently on the Cowboys offensive line then it improved the team. Either he replaces a starter or he's a depth guy. Win win for the Boys.

Id say the Cowboys would be the favorite right now if they actually had a running back. They are really trying to polish the turd that is Darren McFadden

hard to say....I think their thinking committee. Besides, they still might add another with the surplus of quality olinemen

They have far and away the best oline, a top 5 QB and a top 5 WR. They are going to run away with the NFC East with Chris Berman running the football unless their defense implodes. I just think you at least need a halfway decent running back or you are slightly wasting all of that run blocking talent.

Most definitely. Knowing that you will likely improve your OL by signing a guy to an UDFA contract is the NFL's version of taking candy from a baby.

Not really. It is paying attention.

Just make a prospect board. There is no question I don't believe that guys who were high picks (Matthews, Lewan, Cooper, Warmack, ect, ect) over the last 5 years or so are better prospects than guys like Scherf, Flower or Peat.

Obviously it could work out for the teams that drafted them but the chances are less likely than if they were spending those same picks on OL in previous years.

I think they have runners with game already on the roster. McFadden might be more about snaps on 3rd and 15 cause that's unproven among the other backs. Randle can't be trusted blocking for Romo. Ryan Williams might come outta no where if he can stop an on coming LB. He has the run skills if healthy. I think McFadden might surprise some IF he can stay upright for 15/16 games this year

Really off topic but:

where the heck do you draft McFadden in fantasy this year. He could have a monster season if he can stay healthy. But the font limits here at hoop don't allow me to make that "if" as big as it should be.

I think he has a nice year, but he's not going to get 350 carries like Murray did. I'd bet he gets 250-260, which should still be 1100 yards or so

I'd wager Dallas was the only team willing to offer him significant money, especially guaranteed money, and all the other amenities that comes with being a first-round pick without being involved in a criminal investigation. There's a reason the guy went undrafted and it wasn't for lack of talent. Did he really "choose" Dallas? Not likely. I doubt he really had many other choices.

Dallas is gambling on several players that could have career implosions over the next few months.

Come one, you know that's a huge load of horse shit. Name me the team that had zero interest in him and I'll name you a team that needs a kick in the ass. And what exactly did the kid do wrong, get falsely accused of something that he has already been cleared of? Is that wrong??? Or is it just I hate Dallas so I'll criticize the move...
