Dallas... the house of ill repute. If they sign anymore potential convicts Sharpton might just buy season tickets. Can you imagine the talk inside that locker room? "Who'd you shoot last night? "Slow night man, just beat the f--k out of my girlfriend instead... you score on that killer weed? Nah, ended up lifting some panties from the mall after I drove drunk to get there."

Listen, they can have those questionable guys. Sooner or later it's all gonna come crashing down on em.
You sound envious.

So, what does the Cowboys rap sheet look like? Domestic violence (Hardy, Collins), murder (Josh Brent), elder/maternal abuse (Dez Bryant) . . . anyone care to add anything more?

Well, at this point, it's sounding more like teams were afraid of what could be more so than what is. He's not a suspect, turns out the kid wasn't his, and he passed the polygraph. I mean, I guess it's possible he had a friend order a hit on a girl, but even that's looking like a stretch. More than anything, it appears a tragic event occurred to someone he knew at the worst possible time. I guess it worked out for him though. He got to pick his team, and I believe he's basically getting 2nd round money with a chance at big bucks in 3 years. Things could be much worse.

It was a great deal for Dallas.

The most interesting part in all of this, is that SM has decided not to draft guys with questionable backgrounds/histories and that's a noble thing to do for the organization going forward.

A bit confusing, of course, especially if you consider that this organization chock full of questionable background and historical stances has deemed it fit to hire the man and place their trust in the same with a questionable background/history.

Character catches up with you at some point in time. We'll see when that will be with the Cowboys.
The Cowboys have a few characters but have never been caught cheating like the Patriots have.

I'm not talking about cheating. I'm talking about other things. More often that not, character will come back to haunt you. Hardy is a shining example of that. If his 10-game suspension (or majority portion thereof) is upheld, I'm not sure what good he'll be to your team.

No team is exempt from having had questionable players on its team. It's the height of hypocrisy to claim that stance. Talent often trumps other issues in the NFL.

That said, I like and respect that this franchise is working to place an emphasis on and value character in its selection process.

I won't deny that some of our players aren't choir boys but I still like our prospects for this season.

Well they certainly took a turn for the better with a basement $$$ contract for a potential starter.

Also, there is no character issue that we know of with La'el.

IMO, it was that no team wanted to take the chance before more due diligence. Especially on the heels of the Hernandez fiasco.

Sounds like JJ got more info, had the advantage that La'el was a Boys fan growing up and leveraged his advantage.

Smart business decision.

You guys do have something to look forward to. But losing Murray and not replacing him is a huge question mark. Also, we'll see how that defense plays this year. Sean Lee will be coming back from injury and he's definitely a gamer. But you're missing others from last year like Justin Durant and Bruce Carter, and, if things stand the way they are now, Rolando McClain for four games. IMHO, that defense looked a lot better than it was because the offense, in particular the running game, kept them off the field and masked a lot of their deficiencies. If they have to play longer, I'd be looking to see how well Brandon Carr, Orlando Skandrick, and Mo Claiborne hold up in coverage or how well that defense can stop the run.

Sooooo, all good as long as it ONLY pertains to the selection process and NOT on the franchise and its selectors when the emphasis is value of character?

When you are in a I would like to win one with a team I built before I die mentality... Character takes a back seat.
