Sounds like some one is trying to drum up trade interest. Cant blame them for trying, but a 3rd string WR when you have serious issues else where might be a hard sell.

Not for those of us looking long term, not quick fix. I actually prefer Cooper but if it's White I'm OK with that too. Guys like Dez have shown that in today's pass happy NFL wide receivers can really change a game.

I think its a smoke screen. We will be trading down. If MM and White are there at #5 that would be good for us. The Bears want White and Cle wants MM. Assuming Fowler and Williams are off the board we should be moving down.

Please for the love of god explain to me HOW is fixing the O-Line considered a QUICK fix?? Or more to the point, how is attempting to fix the line now, NOT considered a move towards the future of this team?? Are we suddenly NOT going to need an offensive line 3-5 years down the road because we drafted a WR that could some day become our #1?? Does the actual having an offensive line all of a sudden become a non issue because this WR could factor into future plans?? And does an offensive line actually NOT factor into a future for this team?? As i mentioned in another post, every year there are 3-5 WR's that are supposed to be transcendent in every draft. This year its White and Cooper. Next year this time there will be two or three more.. and guess what.. in 2017.. there will be 2-3 more.

Bottom line is if you draft ANY player and your chief concern is only how it affects this team this year, you have failed. And if you go into the draft with the concept that you are drafting for 3 years down the road with no concern on how it will affect the current product, unless you already HAVE a solid roster.. .this to will also most likely fail.

What many seem to miss is we should be building for now WITH an eye towards the future as well. Meaning we need players that will help now AND in the next three years. NOT guys who are directly drafted to address POSSIBLE future losses. We are no where near good enough to be drafting guy simple to try and cover for future losses. The Patriots, Packers and Sea Hawks can do this... Us... not so much.

But DGF, Dez can showcase his talents because he had the o-line to give Romo time to pass and Murray the time in which to run the ball and control the clock. Seattle has shown that you can do well enough on offense with a pedestrian QB, WRs and a passing game that finished 27th in the league. Fix the o-line and a lot of people who are otherwise pretty regular can look awfully great. That's why I think the long term plan is to fix the o-line and stick with RGIII. He may not be great (at least not yet), but with a stud o-line, he won't need to be. And with that type of o-line, he can learn on the job to become the pocket passer he needs to be.

sorry but even if we fix the o-line I don't believe RG3 is the answer won't surprise me if we draft Petty,Hundley or Grayson and let them develop for a year

I'd agree with but for the fact that he was the answer in 2012. The guy has a bunch of talent and, while he may never be a pure pocket passer, he can definitely turn into our franchise QB if we extend him a little bit of time and patience. This, of course, also depends on him controlling his ego, which is no sure thing.

I'm not impressed with any of the OLB's to take at 5

Are people locked onto OLB because the so-called experts say that is what this team needs most? I don't intend to be rude here, but I cannot disagree more. For the record I insist that needs along the OLine free safety an a blocking, pass catching RB far out rank any need at OLB.

I know this is going to seem like Im defending the OL, which I am not. We need an upgrade at 4 of the 5 positions. However, to blame the poor play of RG3 on the OL is not correct. To say the RG3 didn't have the time due to the OL is not entirely correct either. We know this by looking at the time that Cousins had when he was QB. Cousins sack rate is actually pretty good. If you have a QB that is decisive and knows where his receivers are, our OL did and adequate job (at best). To expect RG3 to play better by having more time is not going to happen. Our offense is predicated on timing patterns. The QB has to throw the ball to a spot and the receiver has to get there. more time just means that the play has broken down. Time to throw is not RG3s issues and those of you that keep saying RG3 needs more time so he can develop are going to be disappointed. RG3 needs to learn to read the defense and learn to throw to a spot and not wait for the receiver to be wide open (at times last year he didn't even throw to wide open receivers).

Garcon is a legit receiver. His production declined because of D-Jax, piss poor oline, and bad QB play. If we're stuck on five and have got a choice between White and Scherff, the latter is a no-brainer.

What if White is rated higher than Scherff by a fairly large margin. Still want the lower rated player?

My quote was referring to your comment that drafting a WR would mean drafting a 3rd string player. While that may be true for the upcoming season those of us thinking beyond next year, a year we all recognize as a lost season, understand that in 2-3 years a Dez Bryant type of player could be a better long term investment This is espcially true when you look at the contracts of the 3 WRs on the team now.

You on the other hand see the OL as a glaring hole (which it is) that must be fixed in the next 2 weeks with the top pick. Me? I'm thinking more long term than that with the understanding that the vast majority of the starting guards in the NFL were drafted after round 1.

Again I totally agree we need to improve our offensive line. As a Griffn supporter it's in my best interest to see him protected no?

The rub here is I'm not willing to pass over better prospects because i am thinking more long term and the best long term move you can make is to draft the best players regardless of position. I also understand the 5h pick in the draft is not required to fix the offensive line, history has shown you can get comparable talent later in the draft. And finally there are 2 players in the system that I have not bailed on after their rookie years.

DGF... I could care less if it HELPS Griffin. Im more concerned with the long term health of the team. And I think a solid o-line going forward is much more important for both now AND in the future, than a Dez Bryant type WR because as i have stated... every year there is a Dez Bryant type player in the draft. And my true concern here is simply this...

1. We take the WR in Round one
2. We then get the pass Rusher every one is adamant about in Round two
3. Round three comes up and the quality of O-lineman still available are the Morgan Moses of the world.
4. Next year we go into the season needing a QB AND still needing to fix the O-line.

I would much rather at this point HAVE a solid o-line because we decided the line was more critical for the future than another WR. And if it turns out we need a WR in a year or two, so be it.

By the way.. how gives a rats butt if the majority of starting O-lineman were drafted after the first round. The Majority of QBs were drafted in the first round, yet the guys who have won the Super Bowl as of late were a 3rd and 6th rounder. So should we start picing up a mob of UDFA QBs and try and find our Franchise QB that way??

Secondly Sherff is an OT, Guard is the worst case scenario. But in all likelihood, we add him and resign Williams, and we have book end OTs for the next 5-7 years. Or is that a bad thing to have??

You use history, such as the Redskins draft over the past 10 years, when it fits your argument yet totally dismiss history when others try to use it. Again just like the pundits, you quote them when they agree with you, dismiss them as idiots when they do not. You can't have it both ways Shark.

The majority of good QBs are from round 1, by a large margin, over 6th round picks. So history has shown that your best chance at a good QB rests in the early rounds. Brady is the exception and proves nothing, for every Tom Brady there are a 100 Derick Andersons. Regarding Scherff again the point is history has shown that you can find similar talent after pick 5 of the draft.

NO I continue to act as if he is one of the better players in this draft that ALSO happen to fit into both a current and future needs slot. I could care less if people think well you cant draft "this position" at #5. Because to me thats just like people who said, well Wilson will never make it at QB because he is too short. And people who insist or trying to marginalize Scherffs play and say heis ONLY a Guard are likely the same dumb asses who said Tanehill wont even make a decent QB, we HAVE to make the sexy move for RG3. Because after all Tanehill is really a WR.
Once again we see how THAT has worked out.

Scherff played OT at Iowa. He won't be playing OT in the NFL unless some team wants to gamble big on him. Even if he does play OT, he'd be playing at RT, which would involve a major adjustment. Couple that with his inability to handle speed rushers and he'd be a major bust. And it's not me just saying that. Just about everyone out there is of this opinion. Why you think he'd be drafted as an OT is beyond me.

DGF, if White is that much better than Scherff, we should trade down. If we can't we take Fowler or Beasley, either of whom should be available when we pick at #5. Teams that can sit high draft picks are those that are perennial playoff contenders. We're not close to that and we not only need our draft picks to play immediately but need them to fill holes.
