Sarah Thomas to be NFL's first full-time female ref

Honestly, I hope she does well and it is not long before being a male or female referee is of no consequence. In reality, whenever she misses, or appears to miss a call (and every referee does), it will be magnified and beaten to death by the media and online discussions. Hopefully she and the NFL are tough enough to get past that. Speaking of being tough enough - in the picture she looks like Jeanette McCurdy, who played a tough tom-boyish character that would be perfectly suited for this challenge! (Yeah - I shouldn't know that, but I have a daughter that watched iCarly non-stop!)

I'm all for it. I feel like women officials could potentially be better if they understand the rules/mechanics. I feel like the male referees let their egos get in the way too much and make stupid calls based on bias and favorites. Women may have less bias/ego/raging testosterone and it may lead to better calls.

No man, woman, child could referee a worse game than the Boys/Lions last year - so at this point open it up to everyone.

Im fine with it too.... BUT I hate the twitter outrage that will ultimately come if someone criticizes her.... it happened in the NBA I think it was derrek rose, or maybe chris paul... criticized a women ref. cause she did a bad job.... the twitter mob was all over him calling him sexist and what not.... he criticized her cause she blew the game, not cause she's a women....

I'm of the mindset that NFL football is as many of the greatest players have said many times in the heat of battle, "it's a man's game", plain and simple......Women do many things better than men, but football, ain't one of them...
Now watch all the women's lib pounders start with their complaints and rules they want instituted to accommodate this one ref...

One (female) knows ahead of time that by being one of the first working a "man's world," she knows that she is going to be judged more harshly than her peers (or at least watched more closely) and so she is going to be told she is wrong at least a few times - she's prepared for this! I bet she has bigger balls than some of the refs working currently!

She can't be any worse than some of our current refs. At least this shows that the NFL is trying to thin the herd of the old guard & replace them with more competent people. I couldn't care less about the gender of any ref.

Most women in this country have forgotten more about football than any Raven fan will ever know. Get over it buttercup, she's an NFL ref and you're still a durr that thinks Ray Rice, Terrell Thuggs and Uncle Ray Ray Lewis are all just misunderstood
