How about something that actually relates to DC???

Ok, how about the Washington Assholes. They can have a capitol on the side of their helmet.

and their mascot can be that "how does a bill get passed" guy

How about "Washington Bureaucrats?"

The logo could be a cartoon of Mr. Wheeler, the head of the FCC, with his eyes crossed and a drool cup strapped under his chin.

The best suggestion I've heard was to just keep the name but change the mascot to a potato.

In B4 the 1st "my grandma/grandpa/mom... etc. is a full blooded Cherokee and the name Redskins doesn't bother me a bit". 3 pages. Wow, you guys are slipping.

And there's the irony. Their current logo is the most dignified portrayal of an American Indian in the pro sports world. I think it's based on the old Buffalo Nickel.

So you enjoy watching various fans getting embarrassed? You would have no issue if this were you or perhaps members of your family? So now this issue isn't just about the team or Snyder but Redskins fans should feel bad & what - burn all their shirts, jerseys, etc.

You sound like quite a guy.

I think all jerseys should be kept as old memorabilia that is part of that teams history, kind like an old Washington Braves jersey or memorabilia.

Then sell the rest of the inventory at a reduced price (still to make a profit) and then sell all new jersey's, logos, colors, memorabilia to market even further.

I am sure the NA would be more than happy to let him sell his inventory at a reduced price to officially end the team nickname for good.

Look, the Daily show can be funny. But often times they do just what Jon Stewart claimed they don't do at the beginning of this video. They take things out of context and skew facts. I've noticed this is particularly true when they cover anything sports related.

For instance, the group of native american protesters in this video claim that the term Redskin comes from "proof of Indian kill". How they know this for a fact when the actual origins of the term are highly debatable is beyond me. There is evidence that the term originated from Native Americans themselves.

Also, they asked the Redskins fans if they were native american and what percentage if they were. I noticed they didn't ask the to the group of protesters even though half of them looked more white than anything.

Also got a good laugh out of the protesters saying "We are not mascots". Sorry, but yes you are. Damn near every ethnic group has been used as a mascot at some point. You're not special. If they get to say "We aren't mascots" then I guess nobody can use the Vikings, Fighting Irish, Texans, Celtics, Saxons, Canucks, Yankees, Gaels, Aztecs, Scots etc.

I thought of the 'Washington Old Loser Corrupt Politicians For Life Terms' but I couldn't fit it on a jersey unless it was 'WOLCPFLT'. It also didn't fit well with 'HTTWOLCPFLT' song....still working on it.

Not offended one bit by this.

No one cares or would do anything about it if we were......
If I were the owner, I would abolish the whole American Indian heritage and name them the Washington Interns and change the uniform to a blue dress with a cigar on the helmet and see if they liked that better.....:pound:

That would be great. They should sign everyone to a 4 year guaranteed contract for an amount that's voted for by the players, blame all their mistakes on the last guy that started for their position or their own defense/offense (depending what side of the ball they're on), and maybe make a big play once every 4 years (most likely when their contract is about to expire). Let's also make sure they get a league exemption from any disciplinary action from the NFL FO and if they do break one of the rules they'll git a big "SHAME ON YOU!" in the form of a censure from their teammates without missing a start or losing a dollar of pay.

have any of these names been associated as a racial slur?

Associated as a racial slur? Sure. Yank was once used as a pejorative term for Americans. Then again, I've heard that term used as a "slur" towards Americans exactly zero times. That also happens to be the number of times that I've heard Redskins used as a "slur" towards Native Americans. But I think you're missing the point of the specific sentence you highlighted. I'm just pointing out that by saying "We aren't mascots" they're implying that nobody should be able to use any form of Native Americans as their mascot even though pretty much every other ethnic group has some sort of mascot named after them. It's a ridiculous thing to say.

Good question. A question worth having answered to see how legit this all is.

Yes, dark speculation indeed. If only there were a way. . . oh, wait.

The guy bringing the petition is a public interest attorney and law professor named John Banzaf.

Banzhaf has used FCC filings to get antismoking messages on radio and television, to help ban cigarette commercials, and to force DC-area TV stations to use blacks as on-air reporters for the first time.

Sounds like he's in it for the money. . .

I was speaking more to how legit Daniel Snyder's claim was regarding the team and its name along with how the Native American people are actively going after the Redskins. Meaning, are they suing for monetary compensation, or are they just requesting the name be changed, both, what exactly.

I don't know the official specifics regarding the case.

It's a petition to the FCC not to renew the broadcast license for the team's radio station on the basis that it is "offensive and derogatory". The only ones that stand to make or lose money are the radio station and the team. The law school professor filing the petition will get nothing but publicity. Source.
