Im also offended by the following team names:

The Browns- I MEAN SERIOUSLY, TALK ABOUT A RACIAL SLUR
The Giants- So offensive to actual Giants
The Vikings- Unbelievable
The Cowboys- So offensive to actual cowboys
The Chiefs- Awful
The Raiders- Even worse
The Patriots- Seriously, how are non-americans supposed to feel comfortable with this team in the NFL?

Here's a suggestion to simplify things. Throw out all the ones who weren't actually oppressed in this country.

I would bet all of them would be mad as hell, but then a large percentage of them would throw on some D12, Snoop, 50cent, etc and happily sing the word a few hundred times. Honestly I don't think people have much issue with some of these words, its more about what context they are used in. Then there are the busy-body types who just looooove to stick their noses into everything and force other's to do what they think is right. Is "Redskins" racist? Probably at its basest level it is racist, but is it being used in a racist way with Washington's football team? No chance. That's why these types of arguments bug me, they just seem like they are making something out of nothing.

I can't disagree with anything you said. I also can't blame a group of people who are organizing and trying to fight what they feel is personally derogatory and demeaning against their people. They are going through legal channels, they are not doing anything illegal, just excising their rights as American citizens. It may not mean much to us, because we are not using in a way that is derogatory towards them, and it is just simply a logo and football team name to us. However, to continuously hear it being mentioned and said, especially from a team that represents the NFL from our nations capital, it may continue to wear on an individual or group of people.

If Daniel Snyder was a smart business man, he would capitalize on this opportunity to re-brand and sell merchandise for the new named team, along with sell remaining merchandise as memorabilia, is just crazy to me. 1) He comes off looking like a man sensitive to the Native Americans in our country, and 2) he pockets just absolutely tons of new cash from the largest profitable market in the NFL while losing next to no fan base whatsoever.

I do agree, the world is a little too PC now a days though, and anyone and everyone seems to cry foul if it can gunk up the works or give them a little extra advantage they didn't have before.

Snyder doesn't need money and none of what you posted above satisfies his ego. He needs his name to be relevant in the news and he knows that certainly won't happen from anything that actually occurs on a football field.

LOL.

True about the relevant on a football field.

But how can you think this would not put his name in the spotlight, and bring press his way in a big way by going ahead and re-branding as well? If you want to pump up your ego, why not do it in a positive light instead of being the renegade that forces so many people to hate you? Granted, he will have his supporters arguing to keep the name as well, but if given the proper alternative for a name change, I am sure even the most diehard supporter would eventually be okay with the change.

I mean you don't want a ridiculous stupid team name, so as long as you can find something that appeals to the average fans sense of self worth (meaning a name that makes them feel tough and proud, rather than a name that alienates them), then you should be able to make crap tons of money, resolve this issue that is constantly plaguing him and his staff, along with being sensitive to the needs of others, then it seems like a win win for me.

At least that is just my opinion I suppose.

The real problem with this is WHO is behind it all.

Obviously some pretty powerful people are leading the charge on this. Either Snyder has no friends in high places, or he's pissed someone off.

What I can't figure out is who stands to gain from all this. Usually if you follow the money trail you find out what's really going on here.

Good question. A question worth having answered to see how legit this all is.

So if Snyder capitulates and changes the name but doesn't keep with a Native American theme will he still piss people off? You see a lot of Native American themed souvenirs and whatnots currently with the Redskins that kind of play homage to old western Native culture. You've got Fans with the head dresses, war paint, banging war drums etc.... So would Native Americans be equally miffed if they lost that acknowledgment from a National Football League team? Even if Snyder changes the name he stands to still piss off NA's if he doesn't keep the name in a Native theme I think. Imagine if he changed the name to the Washington Calvary? I think Native's would be uber pissed.

Do so many people hate him for this though? I think there are actually more people supporting his stance. He loves being the "martyr" right now. That will end as soon as it affects his wallet, and then (as you pointed out)...he will go on to make a crap ton of money out of it. I guarantee you he was already put in a significant amount of time trying to figure out what the new name will be.

Yes...nothing gave Native Americans more pride than acknowledgement from dbags like this:

I'm looking forward to the name change just so I no longer have to hear about the name change.

As cheesy as that is I bet there are still groups who like the fact that their culture is being represented even as poorly as this guy is doing it. Actually, the head dress isn't bad but he loses points for the shoulder pads.

Why in the world do you even care about Snyder? The Redskins aren't your rival. In spite of your recent success nobody in the DC area gives a crap about your team. However - for some stupid reason - many Ravens fans seem to take issue with the Redskins. Why? Worry about the Steelers or Bengals.

My suggestion to you is read the f'ing title of the thread you are posting in. I didn't start the thread and I certainly have no clue why I would talk about the Steelers or Bengals in it.

How about a complete flipflop...Washington Custers?
