Well I don't think we're actually going to acquire 2 pitchers, so Ogando would be the 4. If we did acquire a 3 and 4, then I don't know that I would sign Colby again. It depends on a lot of things I guess. I'd actually be ok either way because I like Colby and just read where his ERA is 3.74 since the ASB.

3.74 in the AL would be a #3 I think.

Uh oh....

The Rangers have used 27 different position players this season, and MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan looks at how each of them could fit into the 2015 team as Texas looks to rebound from this injury-riddled campaign. Sullivan’s comments include his opinion that the Rangers will pick up Alex Rios‘ contract option for 2015 and that the catching situation “may be the most intriguing decision” of the offseason as the team will have to decide if Robinson Chirinos will be the regular catcher.

I always like TR's insights. His comments about Rios are true in that there aren't a lot of alternatives unless we trade for a RF.

I really liked his comparison of Choice's offensive season to Palmer's rookie season. I think those who are already dismissing Choice are premature in doing so.

He makes a very good point about Choo. "He had a difficult season because of his injuries. Thirty-something outfielders often do."

I also like what he says about our MIF situation. " None of the Rangers' young infielders -- Sardinas, Odor or Jurickson Profar -- has reached their 22nd birthday. There is no law anywhere that says any or all have to be in the big leagues next year."

He also mentions why I disliked losing Gimenez. "He had a .280 batting average as a catcher for the Rangers. That's tied for the third-highest career average among Texas catchers with at least 90 at-bats, behind Ivan Rodriguez and Mike Napoli."

Rockies play the Dodgers for 3. I doubt they win any of those. The race is getting a little too close for comfort.
They have a series with Arizona in Colorado, I believe. That could loosen things up a bit. After LAD series.

I do not want Rios on this team for next season, regardless of what we do in RF. A RF with no RBI potential, poor arm, and doesn't seem to be a team - in the dugout - favorite, just can't imagine him being any type of solution for us. Besides, isn't he going to make about $14 mil in arbitration?

As for catching, we at least have FA options in play for the position. I personally view RC as a platoon man behind the plate. Wouldn't mind even seeing Soto back as exactly that.

This may be warranted:

SAN DIEGO -- Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon was suspended seven games and fined Monday night by Major League Baseball for making a lewd gesture and then bumping an umpire.

Papelbon said in a statement distributed by his agent that he would immediately begin serving the suspension, and that he regrets making contact with umpire Joe West on Sunday.

However......I asked earlier, when is MLB going to call a halt to Mr Wests' BS? He actually grabbed Jon by the jersey and slung him around bc he wanted him outta his face.

This punk ass bully has to be suspended. MLB has the inmates - the umpires - running the game. Absurd IMO.

I don't want him on the team either. I'd rather have Cabrera, Cruz, or even Markakis in RF next year over Rios. He has a 13.5 M team option, w/ a 1 M buyout. I bet we could get any of the other 3 for that amount per year, or pretty close.

I'm with ya.....Pay him his million and move on. Glad it ain't my million of course.

Let's go back to Nellie and give him a 2/3 year commitment and work from within after that.

Catching, although still scarce in the majors, does seem to have some decent options for us.

If our hopes are to keep Darvish and grow our own pitching, then let's go with strong armed/framers/defensive standouts there and see what happens with our young catcher for 2016.

The fly in the ointment with Nellie might be the number of years he gets. We already have two guys under contract well past their prime.

I would love to have Cruz but I agree that years could be the hangup on signing him. Not sure how many I would be willing to go because he seems to still be doing well and his health has not been an issue the past couple of years. But I know not more than 3.

I think we are going to have to get creative and possibly move fielder or choo and eat money on those contracts before all is said and done. I see Cruz as a run producing guy for 3-4 years. Then again who knows really

DMN has been having some good articles on the Rangers. They seem to be picking up the mantle. I remember saying something about Rua when he was at Hickory and being told forget him as he was too old and still at low A ball. But I like what I see and like him even more after reading this article.

Overlooked Ryan Rua could provide Rangers what they've lacked for years | Dallas Morning News

Kid has talent and power and is athletic which serves him well, hope he can become the starting LF for the Rangers out of ST. I made a trip to RR just to watch him. I would sell on Rios and move Choo to RF next season. Then maybe have Robertson as a 4th OF. Obviously if you couldn't sign Cruz or trade for Gattis. I believe the best money spent will be adding pitching depth for 2015.

I could not disagree anymore with this statement.

Ogando's arm action is a injury in process. How many times in the last 2 seasons has he been on the DL? Is it 3 or 4?

Put that guy in short relieve and "hope" he can do this. IMO, he has no opportunity to start ever again.

totally agree.

Hamels is probably too rich for Texas to consider.

if true, then we are doomed to another pitiful season next year. the only way to get this team back on the right path is to bring in 2 quality starters and not waste time on Tepesch and others they have tried this season

There are to many holes in the Rangers line up to make the statement that the team is doomed if they don't bring in two starters. Look at Oakland. 17-24 since trading for Lester and Hamels. The problem for the A's was that LAA started playing better and that's what the Rangers are looking at. No only do they need to get better but the A's, Angels, M's AND Astros have to get worse and the last time I looked the Rangers were 20 games out of third place.

Next season probably won't be pitiful, but I would get ready to not be in contention and to be sellers again next July .
