BP arms are much more easily replaced. To me, it's really disruptive to replace a starter, regardless if he's a # 2 or a # 5 IMO.

Where would you have Colby going into next season, assuming your Ogando starting scenario?

Well I don't think we're actually going to acquire 2 pitchers, so Ogando would be the 4. If we did acquire a 3 and 4, then I don't know that I would sign Colby again. It depends on a lot of things I guess. I'd actually be ok either way because I like Colby and just read where his ERA is 3.74 since the ASB.

If the O's don't resign Cruz, I'm shocked. And for a draft pick? What does this guy have to do?

Over his past 539 games, he's got 355 RBI, with a slg over .500, ops well over .822.

He's considered a good guy off the field, and can drive the ball. What is it that I'm not getting here? Someone explain this to me please.

Age, injuries, PED history, limited defensively, and now with all of those in consideration he's going to get paid excessively.

You and I are destined to be on different pages today it seems. Not a bad thing. Hey, it's part of the reason to be here.

First, he's 34...thus, can have 3/4 productive seasons yet.
Second, he's been relatively injury free for the last 3 years.
Third, he's had one failed test. And he came back from failed test and excelled with his best season.
Fourth, he was never considered a good glove, regardless of age/PED or injury.

I don't understand how he didn't get at a minimum a 2 year offer going into this season. Now, after coming off his best season, the O's don't want him? Maybe this is media BS. Let's not rule that out.

If I'm the Rangers, I offer him 2 years at $14 mil per, with an "opportunity" to play the OF.

Ogando hasn't got the stamina and if used will break down again.

Ogando has broke down in the pen before as well. The year he made the All Star team as a starter he never broke down even though he was fatigued since he had never thrown that many innings before or anything close to it. After skipping one turn in the rotation he got back on track though. I really don't know if Ogando will ever be healthy again, but if he is I think he can start again. That is a big if though.

His defense is better than what we have been putting out in RF. I will take Cruz in a heartbeat. He was a big component of our success and the success that Baltimore is having this year.

That's where depth comes in. I still want us to add 2 quality starters. Give me a healthy Ogando over Colby any day though.

No way, no how. Healthy and ability is nice but I have seen many guys who can let the ball fly but they have no real intelligence to what they are doing. Colby is a pitcher in every sense of the word. He has a plan and he executes it. How else can a guy throwing 89 mph fastballs succeed like he is able to. And we know Ogando will be around for just so long before the DL comes calling.

Agree but the money has to be right.

I think you took what I said like I didn't want Nelly back. I'm not against bringing Nelly back at the right price. We are badly missing power and we need someone behind Beltre.

I was merely giving you some reasons why the O's, or any team might not want to sign him to a multi year deal. They might be looking to make a play for Castillo. They also have Markakis hitting the market so who knows what their plan is.

Uh....Colby missed a lot of time on the DL recently. Ogando was an All Star pitcher. There's really no debating who was a better pitcher when at their best. While Colby knows how to pitch he is still going to be between a 4 and a 5 ERA. I like Colby and Ogando and I hope they both can contribute next year, if we re-sign him.

Again, I never said anything about not wanting Nelly back. I was giving reasons why teams would be reluctant.

Not over and over and over. He pitched over 200 innings the first two years back and then 105 the year he went on the DL in 2012. He is at 158 this year and his pitching is getting better and better. He predict he will be in the high 3's - low 4's. But I have a hard time seeing Ogando making it to 100 innings. I am with you it would be nice if both were able to contribute.

My bad on that Justin. I thought it was what you were thinking about Nelly. Sorry about that.

Uh oh....

The Rangers have used 27 different position players this season, and MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan looks at how each of them could fit into the 2015 team as Texas looks to rebound from this injury-riddled campaign. Sullivan’s comments include his opinion that the Rangers will pick up Alex Rios‘ contract option for 2015 and that the catching situation “may be the most intriguing decision” of the offseason as the team will have to decide if Robinson Chirinos will be the regular catcher.

Rockies play the Dodgers for 3. I doubt they win any of those. The race is getting a little too close for comfort.
