Okay...it figures...we get Hoyer instead of Manziel...it also makes sense...I think the OFC is likely to struggle without Gordon regardless of the QB, but @ PIT, NO, BAL is a tough start for the Browns.

I predict...JM is the starter week 6 at the latest...@ home vs PIT.

I remember several weeks ago you posted that you thought Hoyer would begin the season as the starter and then Cleveland would switch to Manziel. I thought that made sense then and it now looks quite likely to happen.

This is great news...the Browns have decided to go w/ the less crappier QB. It won't matter because they will once again lose at least 10 games.

Well...I hope PIT can give them the 1st loss, but it will be a strength against strength matchup...the Steelers OFC it expected to be the catalyst this year vs imo a very good front 7. Hoyer is a decent QB...but @ home I expect to win this one.

Good choice by the Browns. Manziel just looked pathetic in this last game (not saying Hoyer looked much better though). His throws at this point are going to get a WR/TE killed at some point. He is all over the place on accuracy and his running ability just isn't going to cut it in the NFL. He can't keep trying his old college tricks and think they are going to work. He has a lot of growing up to do.

I'm sure the Steelers will be favored. During the telecast Monday night one of the announcers mentioned that Elway was the last rookie QB to lead his team to a win at Pittsburgh. Probably won't be enough for Cleveland to get a W, but I think that going with Hoyer was the right call.

seems like the only choice the browns have at this time. The rookie sure didn't come in and take the job

No denying that. It probably wasn't realistic to expect that he would, though. Even a "can't miss prospect" like Andrew Luck who played in a pro style offense in college struggled to make the transition to the league. I don't recall anyone calling Manziel a "can't miss prospect". I'll still be interested to see over the coming years whether he can play in the league. I know that that question has been answered for many for quite some time already.

Johnny did nothing to seperate himself from what I saw. (Which was every snap he took.). If nothing else the preserved locker room peace by sticking with a vet rather than handing the job to a unimpressive rook. Still don't know why they needed to decide now though.

At this point I would say there are some clear signs that things are not looking good for Manziel moving forward. He struggled to even make the most basic of NFL throws. He had guys running wide open and was missing his target not by a foot or two but by yards. Now obviously he can get better but I would actually feel pretty comfortable already saying he is going to bust. I don't usually say that about a prospect this early on but when he is struggling with the basic throws so badly when teams are playing very vanilla then I can't imagine what is going to happen if he gets thrown in a game when teams are actually trying to stop him.

Not a Manziel fan ...but I was impressed with his college play. All rookies should have to come into camp and win the job. It should be obvious to the most casual observer. JM didn't win anything, he kept pace and now he needs to continue developing his game at this level and wait for his opportunity.

They decided now so that the media would quiet down for a bit

If Johnny Ca$$h was truly a "can't miss prospect" he wouldn't have fallen to the 22nd pick. Of course leave it to the Clowns to even think that he was worth a 1st round pick. If the Clowns brass had any brains (and they don't) they would have taken Carlos Hyde @ 22 & picked up Johnny Foosball in a later round.

I think they screwed Hoyer, now when he fails without a decent WR they can bring in their first rd pic and say we gave Hoyer every shot to be the man.

I only wish Jerry Jones (New Al Davis) had taken Manziel in the draft. It would be perfect for that failure of a GM. I had serious doubts about his transition to the NFL and this offseason has done nothing to change my opinion.

If Manziel does not buckle down this year and seriously work on his game I can see him ending up like Timmy Tebow.

I've said from even before he was picked...he'll make a few plays because he does have some good qualities, quick, can make you miss, can throw on the run, smart enough to get down, but once teams (particularly in DIV) get that second look at him...he's toast.

He'll be a 1 contract QB in CLE was my draft day comments.

I don't think it matters who the starting QB is for the Browns. They both SUCK. Manziel looked so small against the Redskins. His arm strength is pathetic & he can't run away from the defenders like he did in college.

I posted about this in a thread in the offseason, not sure of the one, they were many.He is who I thought he would be...Upset( flipping off people) and not prepared because he didn't study the playbook. I'm waiting for his angry speech that he wasn't given enough time to learn the plays.:L
