I bet they are thinking they locked up their QB position for the long term. The contract will likely be structured similar to Kap's is that it is essentially a year to year deal after 2 seasons.

But without knowing the details yet, that is just a guess.

I just dont think he is anything special, especially in the postseason.

I can't say 100% but my thought here is Mike Brown is content with having a pretty good team and didn't want to upset the apple cart...pretty good gets you a decent gate every year and gives fans "hope", but the smart fans know this guy is about at his ceiling...not a bad QB, but doubtful he will ever bring a title.

He's a QB, those guys get paid. I don't think Kap is anything special or Cutler is a top 5 QB, but they got paid. The position demands that those guys get paid even if they are not initially worth the contract. If you don't pay him/them, somebody else will.

It's better to be a have than a have not, who is constantly chasing a franchise QB every other season. Even if your QB is just an above average to good QB at this point, he's better than the alternative.

I can see that. At the same time, it's not as if going out and getting a QB that gives the team a significantly better chance of certainly winning a title is easy to do. And there have been some fairly mediocre QBs who have won titles without being a main reason that their teams have done so.

I suppose that is a fair assessment.

They did the smart thing here in my mind. No, I don't think he is a great franchise QB, and I think he is pretty average. But without knowing the details, I would assume the deal is set up so that Cincy can cut ties at some point without dealing with a F*&#-ton of dead money.

It at least stabilizes an important position while they groom for a better replacement.

Wow. Russell Wilson will break the bank when he is able to renegotiate his contract.

Listening on the NFL Network today they seem to think it more a 2-year deal. Everybody sees the 6-year $115 million thing and freak out. Those numbers mean jack squat for the actual contract. Essentially after 2-years they can cut ties with him with very little to no dead money hurting them. This gives them a chance to groom somebody to take over for a couple of years or if they don't find anybody keep him around. It is not like he is the worst quarterback in the league. He does do pretty decent at least in the regular season. Plus AJ Green seems to really like him and said he won't play with any other quarterback. I could see this as more of a let's keep our star player happy in AJ Green kind of thing while we lock him up long term.

If Joe Flacco and trent Dilfer can get rings, Dalton likely could get one two. Its the nature of the beast. RG3 is going to get paid mad money unless he totally flops this season. I dont even want to begin to guess what Wilson is going to get from the Seahawks.

Dalton was the 4th best QB stats wise last year. He deserves it.

He's a young ascending QB and this deal makes good sense.

Dalton is not worth the time or the monetary commitment.

Has he ever gotten past the first round of the playoffs?

RGIII has a hell of a lot to prove this season.

But I think the Eagles in that division.

Let me preface this by saying that I am hands down the hardest on RG3 of any Redskins fan on these boards. Any one that knows me would agree with that.

Now having gotten that out of the way, RG3 had a bad year last year, but his bad year was basically equal to an average QB. Does he need to prove he was worth what the team gave up in trade?? Sure he does. But as i said, he would have to have a total flop of a season to not get paid based on what other QBs have gotten paid and his body of work thus far.
