Been fighting em'off boys but they're coming over the walls. This is likely the last stand. I fought a good fight.
yes you did.

I doubt he screws it up, but who knows. Baseball drafts can be such a crapshoot...some kid looks great and then sucks.
There's probably data out there on it.
No he won't. Nobody should expect that.Go after 2 FA b/c Perez won't be ready.
Or has a major injury shortly after signing
only be out a year or two though....don't be such a downer, he could come back of two fusions, 2 plates and 7 screws.
I've never heard of anything like this in baseball, I know I keep saying it...but it's mind-boggling.
make that any team sport
It does look overwhelming. If I was JD, I would concentrate heavily on pitching first and foremost. We aren't signing a Scherzer or Shields, our budget won't support it (plus after this disaster, would these guys even want to come here??). We need to concentrate on the Fister, Skaggs, Miley level pitchers - affordable (comparatively) and hungry. But we need to spend our money on pitching, pitching, pitching.Normally when a season goes this horribly wrong and the losing never stops, something good comes from it. Maybe a really bad manager finally gets fired. Maybe the top young players get valuable experience. Maybe the team gets a definite idea what needs fixing.
But this season is just a total dumpster fire. Our manager won't be fired over this mess because it isn't his fault. Our top 2 young players are out for the year and our other top guys are too far down and not ready for promotion. It's basically Odor and a bunch of spares who will likely be career minor leaguers playing now. And how do you judge what this team really needs other than a couple of starting pitchers? The whole team has been hurt. Will Fielder rebound? Will Holland and Perez come back strong? Is Profar the long-term answer everyone thought? What will become of Scheppers, Ross, Feliz, and Ogando?
How on earth is Jon Daniels supposed to judge what this team needs this offseason? Does he assume the worst and begin a massive rebuild? Or does he give it one more try with the current team being healthy? Hold onto the likes of Rios and Soria and hope for a better 2015, or trade anyone/everyone?
What a complete waste of a season. Chirinos proved himself as a usable catcher and we might get the 1st overall pick. I can't think of any other positives.

As for the offense, as JD, I would have to hope and pray that Fielder comes back 100%, Choo returns to being an OBP machine, Profar is at least 80% of his potential, and Beltre has a few good years left. Odor is a keeper, Chirinos and Giminez can hold down the fort until Alfaro is ready. Martin....tough one, but I see him as a Gentry, Murphy type player. He can be brilliant defensively, but offensively he's just not consistent enough to be everyday. Speaking of Gentry, Choice may eventually work out, but that trade in the short term was a disaster for us. Elvis....I'm done with him. He's not impressed me in the least these last two seasons. Ready to trade him (although his value has diminished), he's one that needs a fresh start elsewhere, he's worn out here and it shows..
Rios is OK, but I bet he's traded this summer.
Pitching, pitching, pitching...and hope the offense can generate some level of consistency until some of the youngsters are ready.
My 2 cents, for what it's worth....
When I talk about pitching, I should have included the BP, especially if we trade Soria ( I'm not in favor of that idea, but if the trade opportunity is too good to pass up, well....). But SP's must come first, bullpen pieces can be found easier (but ask the Angels if they agree with this statement!!).Not sure where we are going to fit Profar in. And as you can see from above I agree on pitching. But the BP also needs to be revamped. We need to start restocking our minor league system with pitching. We did that back in 2009 or so but in our playoff pushes we gutted it somewhat.
As the bullpen goes, I think we will find the pieces, or a majority of them, from what we have already simply through attrition, guys like Mendez or Klein could be keepers, maybe Feliz will be fine be seasons end, but if things play out then we might only need a piece or 2 there
SP wise you have to make a run at Shields (I pass on scherzer, never been a fan) and a couple other 4-5 types and sort it with holland
Lewis, LuJack Tepesch and martinez can fight it out fir the last 2 spots behind Yu, Shields and holland
Lewis isn't walking people and his fastball is consistently in the 90s, he looks to be getting to where he needs to be, Tepesch has his stinkers, but the potential is there, just needs to gain confidence in his changeup, maybe LuJack surprises everyone or maybe Martinez takes the next step (think he needs some AAA seasoning)
Darvish
Shields
Holland
Tepesch
Lewis
LuJack and Martinez in AAA (maybe tepesch if we sign someone)
I dont even know what to say to this comment... (taken from here: Extra bases: Odor, 20, learning on job - Dallas Texas Rangers Blog - ESPN Dallas)

I find it hilarious that you block out their names, but we could easily guess them based on their posting histories.
Agree on Scherzer.
Wouldn't mind a Shields/Masterson combo. Depending on what Masterson is going to be looking for contract wise - that is.
