Word.

There is nothing that validates half of the speculation going on by some throughout this thread. We DONT even have the full story or even an accurate account of the entire incident. The judgment is hilarious.

For those that have made their minds up... just be glad someone's not judging you on a half story like the one that's been presented here. Smdh.

The thing is though that Sapp made his bed. He's built a reputation for himself that follows him all over town. He lost the benefit of the doubt and even his bosom buddy Booger said its Sapp's fault that people assume he was just being a dick again. We are talking about an awful person here and if he truly did get bad service and that is why he didn't tip his past actions give people doubt. You can trust that this isn't isolated.

Also everytime we get in discussions about someone calling someone else out on social media, the person who posted the info gets their share of ridicule. When a person complains about not being tipped, it's usually accompanied by a nasty note on the receipt. Had Sapp not written the note she wouldn't have posted anything. I try to always tip. If the service is awful, I won't but I would never EVER leave a nasty note because you should already know why your not being tipped. If I have to leave a note to tell you, I'm probably dead wrong!

If a waitress said "Hey boys" then comes back to the table later and says "can I get you boys anything else" it would take a pretty unreasonable black man to get pissed about it. Obviously I'm not saying that the convo went down like that but you get the point.

In your exact scenario, with no other issues, I am 100% ok with a black man not tipping her and teaching her that lesson. You don't say it.

My fondest memories of Warren Sapp are seeing him suck oxygen in the 4th Qtr against Nebraska because he couldn't keep up.

He wouldn't have even been a starter in Miami if it wasn't for Dwayne Johnson getting hurt.

Wrong, they are entitled to a tip. They work for less than $3 an hour in most states. They wait on you and serve you like peasants. They deserve to be tipped for their service.

Bullshit. As stated before, when they are serving me they are my employee. A tip is to be earned and not just given.

That being said, I very rarely never tip. Only if food and service are extremely bad or those servicing are intentionally rude.

Poor service will still get a tip, just not a large one. Excellent service can get 25-30% from me.

This whole notion that they deserve a tip regardless of how bad they were is ridiculous.

For example: I remember being in a restaurant once and getting bad service. Hostess sat us down promptly, menus were brought and orders taken. Again, no problem.
We then proceeded to wait a long time for our food. During the wait we ran out of water so I tried getting the attention of our waitress but to no avail. I could see her standing over by a station with her phone out texting someone. I waited for 5 more minutes and then got up and approached her and asked for water. She said "I'm busy and turned her back to me, while still texting on the phone.
When we got our food it was good, but cold. It was obvious that the food had been up and she had not brought it out promptly.
So you think I should tip for that? If so, then you are fucking crazy.

As a black man I can tell you that it is no reason at all to not tip unless she is trying to be nasty which in my scenario she is not. In all likelihood it is just how she talks and has nothing at all to do with race. You have to be looking for offense to be offended by that.

No, they are not entitled to anything. No one is entitled to anything to be honest.

If they provide good service then yes they get a tip, but they shouldn't feel entitled to a tip if they did a shit job

I'll go back to my explanation to another poster as why this is wrong thinking. If more people think like you, and don't presume the tip - then restaurants will be forced to severely jack up the price of food. They will have to pay staff at least minimum wage. That's roughly $5/hr more, per employee, per night.

Now, a typical restaurant including lunch and dinner will have roughly 25 servers (that may even be conservative). Let's say each server only works a 7 hour shift. That's 175hrs, times $5/hr more for each = $875.00 more PER DAY the place is having to pay staff because of cheap asses with that line of thinking.

That could be roughly $21,000.00 more in expenses per month for an establishment. Now, any of you can get on here and try to nitpick this scenario and deflect the way my wife likes to argue. But the point is, we are able to go out to eat and pay semi-reasonable prices for food because the wait staff agrees to take a job for a couple bucks per hour, with the expectation that there will be tipping.

So, I think most of the dinning out world is glad that more people don't think like this. I tip because I feel a sense of morality in it. While I can afford to go out to eat a meal, I have a person who is "serving" me and doing it for 1/4 the price that a MacDonald's worker would get. I would feel like less of a man to not take care of my server.

But if that doesn't do it - then at least do it so the rest of us don't have to start paying $60.00 for a steak instead of $30.00.

I don't want to make a habit of defending Sapp but my bet is even the Rock would tell you that is absurd.

I can't put myself on those shoes, and I don't think without intent that that would change my opinion of her if I try to. However, certain things hurt whether they are meant to or not, and that's not something I am willing to pass judgement on.

Sapp is a douchebag. I am sure his stupid ass took it all out if context. I am sure the waitress was being polite and that is just her normal verbage with whatever group of guys are sitting at the table. Any of you ever been to a bar with some buddies and been called "Boys"??? typically by an older waitress?? If you have spent any significant time at a sports bar.. I'll bet most of you have. And don't give me that bullshit about being black and linking that word to slavery. Any halfway intelligent black man would know what context that word was being used in. Sapp is no different.. He isn't stupid. He saw this as an opportunity to puff out his chest.. Put his huge ego on display. And be a dick.

Even if service is poor I will usually leave a little something. If it's that bad or they are just plain rude, I will just get up and leave.

These people have to make a living too. Maybe they are having a bad day?? But leaving a 5% tip tells them they suck as easily as a 0%er.... But it still helps put food in their kids mouths.

This makes me think of a classic clip from a classic movie. I think we have a couple Buscemi's here..

Dude, nobody is a saying to never tip. He is saying to tip according to the service.

If the service at a particular restaurant is so bad that nobody is receiving any tips and the restaurant needs to jack up their prices, then that restaurant would be wiser to just hire better servers.

IMO I would rather pay 20 to 25% more for my bill than to have to worry about how much I have to tip someone. I usually tip more than that anyway. No Tipping restaurants are a new trend and I'm all for that. That being said ,Sapp will always be a prick ,nothing will change that.

I dont let having a bad day affect my ability to put a smile on and give good service. Suck it up and focus on your customers, the bigger tips and the friendliness that they show back should make your day better.

If they take their bad day out on a customer, not getting a tip isn't close to good enough. Them needing to make a living has zero relevance. If they don't earn enough to make a living because they suck at their job, they should find a different one. It isn't my problem and I don't care.

I didn't say having a bad day was an excuse to be rude (see my comment above). I was thinking more like not being overly friendly or short with conversation, kissing my ass, and tending to my each and every need. If I want that... I go for a fine a fine dining experience where you pay for the total package. Not a sports bar or fucking Applebee's.

And a good majority of waitresses are single mothers who had babies with sorry fucking fathers that don't take care of their responsibilities. Trust me, I know a couple. A good majority are kids trying to work their way through school. So yeah, it is some peoples' livelihood and a way to make ends meet.

You aren't the kind if guy that does the "finger tip" when your glass is still half full are you??

It's not an excuse for anything less than amazing service.

I don't care what their needs are it isn't relevant. If the job they do doesn't earn them enough to satisfy their needs, find one that does.

Less money he has to tip means more weed to buy, makes sense
