If that's the kind of money he is commanding then we would roll with it. We aren't talking about trying to outbid other teams for him- we are talking about negotiating while he is still under contract. Also, my offers aren't set in stone. I want to keep this guy as much as anyone, but if we were going to shell out 125-140+ mil, we might as well give him 7 years

That is an extension I'm talking about, but if we lowball him, he'll say no and move on when his current contract is up, you're going to be looking at something a little bit less than Kershaw got due to Darvish's slightly older age

And I'm in the same boat as Romeo, I wouldn't give a pitcher over 5 years, I'd rather pay more per year

Yankees fan here, just wanted to chime in with my thoughts:

- Thank you Yu Darvish for one hitting the Boston Red Sox. Yankees fans appreciate it! :suds:

- LOL at Yu Darvish losing a no hitter with one out left. :laugh3:

5 years with a 6th year option at 25/yr seems like a good offer.

Lol at thinking all that money you spent on aging players and a pitcher nowhere near as good as Darvish will buy you the WS.

I think you're damn close.

JD will probably let this season play out, see what's what, and then make a run at him by buying out his 2017/18 season (which ever it is), offer him 7 years, at $145-55 and see if this is a good offer or just a starting point.

JD is going to get this deal done one way or another, but I have a gut feeling that during the middle of next offseason, we will be here talking about what a steal the Rangers extended Darvish for. I doubt we will sign him for what the "market price" would be, but on the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if the Rangers did drop a massive amount of money for him

Tell me, when was the last time a Yankees player got as close to a no-no as Darvish did tonight?

He's got a great approach right now and is seeing the ball well. Let's hope it stays that way and he stays healthy.

I agree with your thinking. But that doesn't make us right. haha

You're all about more money without the extension in years and in today's game, pitchers get both. Look at Verlander as the perfect example.

Yeah, and Darvish might be better than Verlander was at the end of this contract.

Great game all around..... Sucks that the shitty play in the outfield happened and the hit at the end. Good hitting by EA and Prince looks to be heating up. I'll try to remain cautiously optimistic. hopefully we can win the series against this team, the red sox are pretty good.

It's comical to me how dismal our bats seemed just 3 days ago and now, all of a sudden, MM is on a roll, Fielder is hitting it hard, EA is seeing it well, and Rio/Choo/Martin are having terrific seasons.

Amazing what a couple of well pitched games, and some offense can do with one's state of mind isn't it?

How bout you eat some crow on Moreland. Funny how you're nowhere around when he comes up with a big hit.

This team is like texas weather, it can change in the drop of a hat. We went from giving up tons of runs and hits and barely managing any runs, just a few days back, to back to back shutouts in which the offense looked pretty dominate. Be awesome if they could get a shutout tomorrow and make it 3 in a row. It's Perez so we got a shot.

Yeah, and Darvish might be better than Verlander was at the end of this contract.

And if 4 years younger.

It shocked me the Tigers gave Verlander - in spite of what he accomplished - that amount and over that length of time, and 2 years before they needed too. As much respect as I have for him, his arm has a lot of mileage on it, and it ain't gonna get any better.

I'm all for giving Yu a boat load of cash but he gets it all over the next 8 years. Meaning, he'll be about 35 when he's rich/famous and perhaps retired.
