It isn't about population or TV market. New Orleans is a smaller market and they have 5 prime time games this year. It isn't about earning it either. Washington is fucking garbage right now and has 5.

In fact the last two SB losers have 5 while the last two winners have less than that.

You have three scheduled NBC games, thats the max. The reason is none of the games you had were worth NBC airing. Dallas and New York in Seattle? Oakland and Denver in Seattle? St.Louis and Arizona(unproven) in Seattle? NBC isnt giving any of them a primetime game in that place. It was SF's turn to host as well. You just didnt have the right balance to host more than 1 primetime game. The cardinals is a head scratcher, I thought you would get 2 I think NBC scheduled that for the heck of it and plans to flex it during the season. Every other year NBC schedules a unappealing Christmas matchup.
2012-Chargers@Jets
2010-Chargers@Bengals
2008-Chargers@Bucs
2007-Bucs@49ers(not appealing)

2013-Patriots@Ravens
2011-Bears@Packers
2009-Cowboys@Redskins
2006-Eagles@Cowboys(No Sunday night game was Christmas Day)

Basically they went back to back crapshoot matchups in 07/08 but since has swapped every other year.

Where does Washington have 5? I counted 3, giants, seahawks, cowboys.

My Steelers got 5 primetime games, the maximum allowed.

1) Larger fan base and we're all over the map, not just in and around Pittsburgh.

2) Our games are usually pretty close.

Seattle's fan base isn't very large geographically and the number of people that will watch - if it's a blow out - aren't enough to justify giving them as many prime time games.

How much ad revenue do networks like ESPN and Fox generate from commercial time that Drew Brees is in? Nyquil, Tide, Pepsi, Wrangler. Just to name a few... He's one of the tops in endorsements in the league.

The NFC south consists of the Louisiana, Florida, Georgia (all 3 of those in tSEC country), and North Carolina tv markets.

This is all about $$$$$$. The NFL could give a rats ass about putting the best competitive matchups in primetime. The blowout excuse is total bullshit and everyone knows it.

I don't think the NFL made the blowout excuse.

Everyone always has known the NFL is about money. It's why ten years from now we'll have a 24 team playoff.

The Denver @ Seattle game was the one that should have been a primetime game. I would be curious if the game was closer or if Denver won if that would have changed anything. I understand why the 49er game isnt because they already have the one in SF on national TV.

This blowout excuse is bullshit and everyone knows it. The NFC championship game came down to late in the 4th.

East coast bias. It is what it is. The NY Giants have more primetime games than the Super Bowl champs.

They can slob on everything east of the Rockies all they want. It is what it is.

I was getting ready to say the same thing if it were the NY Giants, NE Patriots, or ESPECIALLY the Dallas Cowboys this wouldnt happen.

Guess they'll call that the Jerrah Jones rule.

Goodell's got to keep makin in rain for the owners, networks, and himself like a oil sheikh with a boner.

One home prime time game is ridiculous regardless of the reason. I'm kind of surprised, because Seattle games are really fun to watch with the rowdy crowd. Oh well, the important one is week 1 anyway. :)

Analysis of the schedule show our options for getting a sunday game flexed to primetime is slim because:

NFL had to give NY Giants 5 primetime games already and I believe that's the max allowed. Adding the Giants @ Seahawks game can't happen unless a Giants game gets flexed out in week 5 - 10 and that's not going to happen even if both teams are winless because it's NY.

SF is out because of the Thanksgiving game.

The only one in the second half of the season with any real chance is the last game of the season (Rams @ Seahawks) on Dec 28th.

But it is what it is. We're still going to kill many and get back to the playoffs.

I really don't get those that are feeling snubbed by this. Seattle won the Lombardi. What more do we really need? Having more national air time is nice I suppose, but this isn't college football. Popularity doesn't impact your ability to make the post season.

You really mean to tell me that the Super Bowl favorite in the AFC playing the Super Bowl favorite in the NFC in a Super Bowl rematch isn't worth airing over Chicago at NY Jets? Really? I can deal with the lack of prime time home games in Seattle, but this one just irks me.

CBS has the rights to the Bronco @ Seahawks game. There is no chance in hell they give up those rights as that is a big time game for them. This is why so many thought GB was more likely going to be our first game. You can bet CBS told the league they were very much against them taking one of their marquee games for that Thursday night opener.

That's why it isn't on one of those national games.

I'm happy we get a Thanksgiving game even though it is on the road.
