The Bears signed Center De La Puenta who played for the Saints. Emery continues to make great moves.

Jesus Christ... Emery is a mad man.

I do like this move though.

It seems like Kromer likely wanted to bring him in, knowing they could get a first team caliber player that he coached at a fraction of the cost on a short deal. Bring him in, and basically he'll audition for Trestman this year to see if he's the guy going forward.

My thoughts too. But I do think he will eventually replace Garza.

Yeah, I think that's the consensus amongst the Bears fans I've spoken to about the signing.

Interestingly, though, in his last season (2012) under Kromer, De La Puente was PFF's second rated center, with an extremely impressive 23.0 overall rating.

Wow. We got this guy for how cheap? And he's 28... What am I missing here? lol

I'm not sure what the contract specifics are, but apparently it was a steal.

I am getting more and more excited about the upcoming season.

fucking competition is what makes players better

This is called competition. 2 good players competing against each other makes for a better player and team.

They're not competing against each other. Garza IS the starter. This guy is a backup.

Competition... is what we have the punter position. Give it up dude. It's stupid talk. Straight nonsense.

BULLSHIT. You can believe that shit all you want....it is a competition and the best player will start. Kromer will play the best player period. And thats the way it should be the way. If you think the young guy(28) is gonna come in and just lay down why sign him.

Yeah... something does smell a little odd with this one. I love the pick up. But on a one year deal. He's been a high level starter for a couple years now. We have said for a awhile now that we needed an upgrade over Garza- good guy, decent player... but he's been pushed at the point of attack far too much over the past few seasons. His run blocking is awful. Do we not all remember cursing at the TV when they would try an pick up short and goal and run it up the middle? As much as M. Bush sucked, it was on Garza too.
I would not be surprised if be wins the job outright- OR- Garza comes down with some type of "injury" early in the season.

Oh my god! Yes! This means garza may be gone before camp breaks. Wow, what an awesome thing. Still traveling but look forward to hearing his contract terms.

Why is garza the starter? He's a shitty center. De la puente is vastly superior, for what possible reason would you start garza over him? You think emery cares about honoring longtime veterans simply because they've been around awhile? Please. Tell it to peppers and urlacher.

I agree, no reason to keep Garza with this guy and Boggs with much more upside. 1.5 is too much to pay garza to back up.

The Bears can keep both, but I do think Garza eventually sits on the bench.

Wow, this has all the earmarks of last years Slauson signing. Emery never sleeps. Great move.

You look at the new orleans fans reactions, they dont think they are losing much. Sounds like garza, better pass than run blocking, too many holding penalties. This is the guy that deserved to play over Olin, might just be a bear center career ender.

Vet minimum? He must be injured. I was hoping we stole him because saints are tight against the cap. Maybe he's damaged goods. Once I get back into town need to watch last few games of saints season.

There is no eventually involved. Probably the second day of mini camp.
A FUCKING great signing by Phil. Just wish I had some of the mirrors he's using.
I thought we were dead w/ FA. But he keeps pulling rabbits out of the hat.
New Orleans is going to hate us.
But who gives a shit.
Could have swore I read (some where) this kid made a Pro bowl appearance .
I may be wrong. But it was a needed acquisition.:suds:
