It's clear Baalke hated the 2012 draft because it's the one draft he aggressively moved back and I think he made only one small trade up.

Also it was clear Baalke wanted to add speed to the lineup with Jenkins and James and when it comes to James I partly blame Baalke and I partly blame Roman.

Roman made little to no attempt to use James or Hunter for that matter and just stuck with the 2 TE, 1 FB, 1 RB, and 1 WR sets a majority of the time when it came to running the ball. Which was disappointing since he was so good in 2011 at identifying weaknesses in defenses and coming up with a creative gameplan to exploit them but in 2013 all he had was a dozen different ways to run the same Gore play to the left or right.

Agreed. The difference between the 2011 Roman and the 2012 Roman was huge. It only got worse in 2013 as far as conservative play calling.

LOL. Pozz hated that pick too when it was made.

I felt indifferent about it  I thought it was a Greg Roman's plea to get him a speedster for his offense so I didn't mind the high pick only because at that time I was so high on Roman as an OC.

Crims, if we could get anything in return out of LMJ's (stock is very low at this point) it's a win. We plan on cutting him anyway, so let's get anything out of this bad investment. Who knows, we might get ourselves another Marcus Cooper (a great 7th round project to develop).

I don't watch college football and know next to nothing about college players. But even when I read about LMJ and the 49ers drafting him in the 2nd round, I thought WTF, LOL. They already have a smallish back in Kendall Hunter who looked good. Where is LMJ going to fit in?

we better not trade him for a 7th rd pick. Would make no sense. Atleast a 5th or trade him for another player like we did for AJ.

He is worth way more than a 7th round pick. He ran the ball well in 2012 as a rookie when he got some playing time. He was just a bad pick as we have to many running backs, and he has not worked as a return man. He could be a great change of pace back or fit into a Harvin/Sproles role with some team. We're just apparently not going to use him for that which makes you wonder why we drafted him.

Whats the sense in having a back like LMJ, if you're not going to put him out in space and utilize his speed?

While I was perplexed as to why we drafted a RB in the 2nd, I was open and excited for the potential of one of Oregon's young FAST RBs... I mean, at that time, I thought we may have had a plan to, as AC puts it, "utilize" his speed.

seasons later, failed... though he played very well IMO when Hunter went down and in the playoffs en route to SB.. I'm thinking, screens, check downs or design runs similar to what Gore was gashing off of....

but no... for that, unless we are using his talent which is straight up speed, what is doing for us? KR/PR? ok, another offseason in practicing it I can live with and hopefully get results...

Drafting him made no sense to me and like everybody else I was hoping they would find a role for him and use his talents, but if you dont fit the scheme, then san fran cant use you. They just dont even try to build an offense around the what guys do best. If you arent Kaep or the big fat O-line we have then, you have to adjust to the scheme. That seems to be why, even when we have small speedy guys they never make an impact.
Aside from two plays, WR vertical route and RB sweeps.. Thats it! No designing plays to get guys out in space. Ever. This more then anything is what drives me nuts about Roman.

I think James could still make a big impact for a team, just not this one. Honestly I would be happy to get anything for him.

What is this "LaMichael James is speedy" stuff?

Surely that's not based on his play in the NFL?

You have to admit that he looked lightening quick at Oregon and that is all the 49ers' talent evaluators had to go on.

Where are people getting that LMJ is worth a 5th round pick? How is he worth anything more than a 7th? His play on the field has shown him to be that level of player (7th round trade value) thus far in his career. Why would we not trade him for a 7th rounder when he is extremely unlikely to make the team next season? Why not get an extra draft pick for a player that we don't want so that Baalke can possibly target someone that we do want?

Used properly by a competent OC, James is Warrick Dunn.

With the low value for LMJ maybe the 9ers could trade a low 3rd plus LMJ (if Philly has a higher 3rd) for Philly's higher 3rd rounder and they could get some vale for him.

The guy had 12 carries for 59 yards and a 4.9 yard run average this year. Last year he had 27 carries for 125 yards and a 4.6 average. I'm not saying he's show that he can be an effective RB in the NFL, but he definitely hasn't shown that he can't either. Sure he has troubles in pass protection, but I think everyone has given up on him too early.
