if the question is, "pick a qb to win the sb NOW" (as in THIS year--you only have the QB for one year), wilson would be somewhere in the middle of the pack of the league for me.

if the question is, "you are starting a franchise from the ground floor and you get to pick any QB you want to build for the future", then Wilson would be much higher on my list.

How many QBs are you gonna take over him if you're building a team to win the SB now? Lets make a list and see what we come up with. Next season, assuming no retirements:

Peyton
Brady
Rodgers
Brees
Ben

I think those are your first 5 off the board easily. No debate at all. After that, you could argue a lot of QBs in the 6th slot. Could Wilson be there?

After your 5...I would take a few other guys before RW...but here's the deal...the way the SEA team is made up they're not asking the QB to carry the team...if Wilson had to pass it 35-40 times a game I'm not sure exactly where I would put him, but he wouldn't be top 6.

I'd take Brady, Peyton, Rodgers, Brees for sure.
Luck, Cam, Flacco are debatable, but I'd still take Russell out of this group.
I want no part of Eli/Ben.

Right now we're just delaying the inevitable as RW will be the #1 QB in the NFL in 3 years. He's already better at running, throwing on the run, improvising than all the above. He's already a better overall player than Ben. His preparation for games might be more advanced than even Manning with the utilization of visualization. His clutch ability and playing in poor outdoor conditions is superior to Brees, Ben and Rodgers. I predicted Hawks would win this SB 2 years ago and now I am predicting RW will be the best QB in the NFL 3 years from now. He will never win MVP because the style of offense and the D is not condusive of posting elite numbers but he will continue to lead while being the most efficient and clutch QB in the game.

Not sure what you're seeing there, but obviously I'm biased...but removing that for a second, if you put RW on the Steelers I don't think they would win 8 games this year vs I still think SEA wins the SB with Ben.

Your second point in bold kinda contradicts where you think he'll be in 3 yrs....you're not going to be the best QB in the NFL unless you put up a big numbers.

I like Wilson a lot, I think he has a lot of upside potential...I don't think he's ready to carry the team or even be the focal point right now.

It's difficult to determine this since we really haven't seen Wilson in this predicament due to his team's makeup (elite D and run first). However he was the only player on NC state and had to pass 30+ times per game yet he has the all time NCAA record of throws in a row without an int. Now being successful on the college level doesn't always carry over to the NFL however the Badgers offense is similar to the Hawks and he is basically achieving the same statistical and winning success in the NFL as he did with UW in being increadibly efficient and clutch. I believe he could easily be a guy to lean on for 30-40+ passes per game but don't have the evidence in the NFL to back up this claim. My belief comes from his previous college outcomes and his current preparation habits.

I can't say either way because as you mentioned...he's not asked to do that...I just think in general your completion % suffers, TD/int ratio suffers the more you air it out. In the SB game...credit the game planning to Carroll and staff on OFC as well...they thought they had a mismatch in the slot with Champ on Baldwin...he won separation every time and the throws were not difficult...his TD pass to Kearse was a simple 8 yd pattern...5 missed tackles later it was a TD.

Quite honestly it puts him in the same arena as Jim McMahon and Trent Dilfer. I think time will tell he's better than those two but he needs multiple titles and some more time before he elevates beyond those two. Seattle won this title with defense.

True...from an accomplishment standpoint...as a player I think he's better than Dilfer and Brad Johnson and I would dare say McMahon as well.

DEF...pretty obvious, because until the pick 6...I was fearing the FGs were going to comeback to haunt SEA...they were about to the kick a 3rd consecutive FG until DEN gave them the 1st and goal. to go up 15-0.

It's to early to tell. It's only his second year. He's bound to have some struggles along the way. How he deals with those determines who he is and where he belongs on this list.

This game was won by the defense, not Wilson. There's a reason he didn't get the MVP.

Let's give him a few years before we compare him to men that have been doing this for a long time.

JDM, still waiting for those 16 QBs you'd taken over Ben.

Then you are an idiot. Did you see how Peyton played with pressure on him yesterday? That's what Russell had all year with a worse receiving core. And he put up numbers that were 4th to 6th best depending on your metric.

The only quarterback that I can say with certainty would have led that team to a title was Rodgers. Peyton and Brady and Brees are probably better QBs with time, but I'm not sure they can handle playing behind a terrible O-Line like Russell did.

Wilson won them the Tampa and Houston and Arizona games, without which they don't have homefield. He also avoided mistakes in several games where any mistakes cost his team the game (Carolina, St. Louis, ad the SF playoff game).

Ben won a SB behind a worse line than he did.

Neither had bad O Lines. Both hold the ball forever, resulting in inflated pressure numbers. It's as much a product of how they play as high yards per attempt.

He had three backups playing in that game. He has a consistent starting line for like two years his whole career.

That doesn't mean they didn't play well, because they did. The fact that he's even once able to hold the ball for the ten seconds it takes him to get through his reads is a sign of very good O line play, let alone letting him do his statue routine consistently.

If the Bronco's with Manning would be in the NFCwest he would not have the numbers he had and that is true for any AFC QB.

Wilsons numbers reflect the DIVISION he is in and the run first team he play's on,just wait til Wilson get's one or two better oline which he will.
