Wilson is a good qb, but Seattle won that game as a team. They kept the Denver offense off the field, created turnovers, etc.

I don't recall N.C. State playing for championships because Wilson was there. He was never over 60% on a season there. Wisconsin was good because they had good offensive lines and a stout defense in a crappy Big 10 conference (they lost to the 6-7 Ohio St team). Once in the Rose Bowl they got beat.

All in all he's a good qb, and seems to be a good guy on and off the field.

Agree with your points. Most decent teams circa '09 time frame like VT pretty much put him in check. It was a team effort for him last night.

On Wisconsin. When has Wilson ever mentioned NC state? Seriously. The only reason he is in the NFL is because of Wisconsin.
Uh, the reason he is in the NFL is because he is good as shit. The idea that he wouldn't have made it to the NFL but for Wisconsin is moronic.

We don't know if it was the NC State coaches, or the Wisky coaches that helped him develop into the QB he is. My guess is the lions share of credit goes to the NCState coaches only because they had him for 3 years, not because they were anything special. What we do know is that he could have gone to any D1 school and he most likely would be in the NFL today.

Actually, I don't think it was a completely ridiculous decision. Glennon is starting in the NFL also. You had a guy that was going to be a senior splitting time between baseball and football. You have another talented kid that was focused on football and has 2 yrs remaining. Not as cut and dry as people make it out be.

I live here in the Raleigh/Durham area, and most Wolfpack fans I know really liked Wilson, but felt that O'Brien did the right thing. There was some team discord with Wilson not being fully engaged due to baseball. One of those tough decisions a coach has to make. Of course, he was fired a year later :yahoo:

In 3 years at NCST, Wilson passed for 8545 yds and 76 TD's. He was already developed as a damn good QB. Wiscy had nothing to do with his development as a QB, nor did Wiscy have anything to do with Wilson being drafted. He would have been drafted out of NCST as well. I would give NCST more credit to Wilson being a good pro, seeing how NCST also helped produce Philip Rivers. Wiscy has never sent a quality QB to the NFL. He spent 1 year in Madison, that's all. His degree says NCST and 99% of his stats were accomplished at NCST. So yes, Law Dawg, I agree with your statement.

Where Wisconsin helped him was by giving him a bigger stage, and by showing that he could play behind an NFL sized line as a shorter QB.

It's an indisputable fact that Wilson was rejected from the combine after the 2010 season (after NC State but before Wisconsin). To quote Tom O'Brien (NC State's coach), "The NFL didn’t want him."

He'd be in the NFL either way, but he's likely undrafted without Wisconsin. I definitely think NC State deserves a lot of credit, both in his development and his recruitment. Because all of the concerns Russell had going pro were evident before he went to college. It was entirely possible that despite winning two high-school state championships and being he high school POY, he would have ended up playing football at Dartmouth if not for Marc Trestman and Tom O'Brien.

I highly doubt that. Wiscy has never produced a quality NFL QB, but NCST has.

This is kind of similar to idiot Sooner fans claiming Troy Aikman is a Sooner b/c he played half of a season at OU, even though all of his records were earned at UCLA and he is a UCLA grad. Although, Wilson did play a full season and helped lead Wiscy to the Rose Bowl.

Come to Wisconsin son.

We have not been able to develop players in our system.

But, we do have some luck bringing in 5th year seniors who developed all their skills elsewhere.

So, by the time you get to your senior year, some 23 year old ACC transfer will come in and take the gig.

it doesn't seem like much of a recruiting pitch.

A Texas fan calling out Wisconsin's player development? Really? We've sent more kids to the NFL than you recently, and we've done it with 2-3 star recruits instead of 4-5 star recruits.

Also, even if you don't count Russell, Wisconsin QBs started more games than Texas QBs last year.

If by recently you mean the last 2 years, well that would make sense seeing how Texas has had one of the youngest teams for the last 2-3 years and have barely had any players that were eligible for the draft. FYI, Texas had 4 pro bowlers this year. How many did Wiscy have? Don't feel like looking it up.

Was this about Texas or just an attempt to deflect to Texas?

Watt
Thomas
Wilson

And that's the same as Texas. You had three Pro Bowlers (Charles, Thomas, and Tucker). Counting alternates is a little silly.

I'll compare Wisconsin's player development over the last several years with anyone. Those lists that compare high school rankings to NFL draft results has us in the top three year-in and year-out.

So the answer is you do want to deflect.

The issue is does N.C. State get any credit for Wilson.

So it's safe to say Cam Newton can't really be claimed by Auburn, right?
