This thread is about selling out playoff games.
Stop the derail.

Weird. I thought this thread was about the three teams struggling to sell tickets this week, not an excuse for Hawks fans to try to act superior. The only reason I said anything is because certain people have tried to make this thread about the Seahawks... yet again. :noidea:

And your team hasn't sold out their playoff game yet because they're underdogs and it's cold out. Not currently a great fan base. Just sayin'.

Oh CURRENTLY. Currently your team is one of the hot teams in the NFL. They have very high expectations, they're a popular pick for the Super Bowl. I suspect a shit load of tickets were snatched up by brokers the second they were available knowing they were going to be a hot commodity. I'm sure I could buy tickets to your game right now too.

On the flip side, you have a team that is expected to lose, who's fans didn't even know it was going to make the playoffs till a couple days ago, and the air temps without windchill are reportedly going to be at -10 by kickoff.

I can't even believe there is a difference in ticket sales right now :)

I believe there is three factors why some venues have not sold out yet.

1,Weather

2,Price,the tickets plus parking and any concessions have gone through the roof over the years plus it is right after Christmas.

3,Cheap large HD TV's,people can sit at home with family and friends and have a great viewing experience.

I read the comments on the yahoo thread and i can understand people not wanting to sit in 5 degrees weather on an aluminum bench with wind chills -10 or whatever.

I'd go if I was sitting in a luxury box. I refuse to sit with the rabble, though.

I have sat in a luxury box seat before and while the experience was fun and the free prime rib etc was kool it felt sterile compared to being out there with the crowd,i prefer the crowd with the great vibe etc.

I got to sit in a luxury box once at a Pacers v Lakers game during the Shaq years. What an awesome experience that was.

Depends for instance baseball games are generally far mellower than Football games as far as the crowd,i have no clue about the crowd in some of the other venue's but Seattle yes we are loud but people in general are mellow, yes there will always be a few drunks but they are fewer over the years compared to the KingDome.

yesterday morning 12 was the forcasted high, by afternoon that was downgraded to 8 for a high, this morning, they're calling for 0 for a high on SUnday. Not the trend I'd like to see. Regardless of the high, by 4 in the afternoon, I imagine that temp is going to be well be low zero and by the end of the game???? I imagine there is going to be a decent wind as well as a "colder" front is supposed to be blowing in that night.

The coldest game I was at was a Sunday night game against the Vikings and that was 6 at kickoff and zero by the end of the game. It was cold but tolerable. Plus I used to drink a lot more back then :)

as of now, i believe the only game still sold out is Philly. This is really embarassing for the league imo.

It is,one other point the economy still sucks for many areas of the country so people are still cutting back and with this snowstorm i bet people are wagering heating cost's etc.

I think a few playoff blackouts would actually benefit the league. Ticket revenue used to be the bulk of a team's income. Now it's a much smaller chunk. Having all the games on TV and re-setting ticket prices to boost demand is the best way to maximize profits.

Honestly glad to hear this, as the economy has gotten worse, entertainment prices, especially for sporting events, have risen. Fans are making rational choices not to go because they don't get their money's worth or can't afford it.

Luck was on tv pitching the game this morning. We never really worry about blackouts here though. Lilly or or someone will buy the remaining tickets and give them to organizations for underprivileged children.

See win win if that happens.
