Tell that to the guy who makes 6 fg's in a game, a 64 yarder to win it or how AV won all 3 SB's for the Pats and helped Colts win their SB

Again, if they are football players, why does the NFL designate them as defenseless players at all times? The NFL has basically said they aren't football players by designating them defenseless players.

If they were football players, they could protect themselves on the field, and the NFL wouldn't have to make them defenseless at all times. I just have a hard time calling someone a football player if he can't protect himself on the field.

I have seen some kickers make some big ass td saving tackles and then some get knocked the #%#% out. They suit up, on on the roster and make bank. Alot of these guys played different positions in pop warner and HS. College team drafts them and decides their strength is their leg. Kid says to coach " No thanks I want to get crushed every day, love me a concussion and wanna be called a football player"

Then Peyton shouldnt be called a football player cause I cant rememember him running with ball, and definately not doing a QB on short to go. Just fucking with you cause he's on your team. Tebow has playoff win in Denver lol

well explain to the punter who just got his Jaw broken he is not a football player.
Also with this frame of thinking means you could make an argument that QBs aren't football players either. The rules on QBs are getting so bad we might as well just put two flags around their belt & just say no tackling. also When the NFL was kicking from the 30 & not the 35 Dallas had a Kicker that not only beat a DB in practice in a running race, he was leading the team in tackles. (on special teams)
The guy thought he was a LB.
I think it is ridiculous to think a player that can get creamed by a huge defensive player isn't a football player. If you are not a football player you wouldn't need helmet & pads.

Dumb things fans say/do:

Blame a coach for a specific play being called when they have no idea whether that play was called by the coach or was audibled into by the QB.

Blame the QB for an interception when it appears the QB threw the ball right to a defensive player without knowing whether the fault was the QB or the WR running the wrong route.

Oh and this gem of a dumbass comment:

You don't know anything about football because you root for such-and-such team.

Since when did a team's success equate to having an intelligent fan base?

He has a rushing touchdown this year on third and goal.

Just to show I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Y! SPORTS

There is a bit of a divide among kickers and punters. Overall, they tend to be bigger and stronger than in the past. Jay Feely, for example, is known for his build and even has endorsed protein shakes and other products for a sports nutrition company. McAfee is 233 pounds and his Twitter avatar shows him with biceps peeking out of his T-shirt.

But not all kickers are recoiling against the "defenseless" label. "Some of us have a fire in our belly," says Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Rian Lindell, "and then another guy looks like a kicker and he'll hold off a little bit."

Lindell, reached by phone Wednesday in Tampa, admitted he used to have a "silent agreement" with would-be tacklers when he did kickoffs in Buffalo. He would slow up, and they wouldn't crush him. "It was like, 'You got me,' " he says.

Hmm

Tedy Bruschi's take: Rule proposal exempting specialists from contact - ESPN Boston

"Thus, what I think should happen is this: Specialists should be required to wear a different color jersey – a neutral color – and players will know that certain color jersey can’t be touched. Wearing that jersey, specialists then surrender their right to participate in the down once their act is executed. So, for example, after Huber punts the ball he has no right to make a tackle, he’s eliminated from the play.

By the way for those saying that if punters and kickers aren't football players than neither are quarterbacks, remember the qb is not defenseless for the entire play like kickers are.

What it boils down to for me is that if the NFL is going to give them special rules and not treat them like football players, then why should I view them as football players?

No I've never lost a gf/wife to a kicker. I just want to know, if the NFL doesn't consider them football players, why should I?

Blaming one player for a loss. That player may have put the nail in the coffin and made the last mistake but he's not the only reason.

Also...this QB beat that QB. Neither of them play defense.

I hear ya and you can consider what you want. I go to NFL.com and type in a kickers name , his name comes up. You have 11 players on D and I think there are 10 others and not 11. Just like a QB in the pocket, a kicker might be standing still and could get annilated by players coming full force, or easy to break his leg as he punts, thus the 5 /15 yard variety

And that's exactly why McAffee isn't happy about kicker's special designation.

Frankly I agree with Teddy Bruschi's argument: if kickers are defenseless, put a special jersey on them and don't allow anyone to hit them or allow them to hit anyone else. Frankly it doesn't seem fair to me that they get special protection that no one else does, yet they can turn around and lay out a hit like this one.

I'll take a wild guess at this one ... Because they play football? No need for wild extrapolation to make a point.
BTW, kickers usually are the highest scorers on teams in the long-term, does that not make them players?

I get it! Broncos is giving an example of the dumbest things fans say.
