I hammered both of them, and I stand behind my criticisms at the time. But they both have done masterful jobs this year and if we win this thing, they have lifetime jobs as far as I am concerned...

I always thought your criticisms were well reasoned. Of course, maybe that's because I agreed with most of them.

Just read that thread. Yeah, Nolan is a pile of nothing now. Everyone now sees what it is over there. tzill called it, astonishing lack of moderation. It's now a Nolan-Tito-Livin world there. And I don't miss it one bit.

Whoever posted that there's too much posting ABOUT that board (I forget, ElJim? Colin?), realize that will fade once that thread dies out. No one here will feel much need to continue I think. Also, when the season ends this board will not see a ton of posts until spring training.

This is a really good point; I don't feel this board is overly concerned with the dimwit board. It's simply a shared negative experience that we are all letting go of.

Some of us quicker than others.....

It's also fun to rip on idiots, so we still do so both here and there.

I really feel sorry to all those who got so wedded to their criticisms of Sabean and the Giants to the point that they could not enjoy this season to the fullest. Not Tito though. I'm thinking of a few decent posters out there who really hammered Sabean et al in the off-season and then seemed to post less and less as the season progressed.

Hmmm....someone whose name rhymes with Spazdik?

This, a perfect example of the essential difference between this board and the Romper Room version.

Adults man up and admit -- "hey, got that one wrong. Glad to be wrong in fact."

Yes, this is exactly correct. El Jim, for all his good opinions, tends to get stuck in a "static view" of the world.

No one (I think) is arguing that if the Giants win this suddenly Sabean is a god amongst men who never makes mistakes. His mistakes are plain, and can be argued and called out with integrity (Rowand deal, Zito deal, AJ trade, etc).

It's just even more obvious now than before that Sabean made no more than his share of mistakes, and probably less, and that he was astute enough to put together multiple winning teams over a very long tenure, get 2 pennants, and maybe 1 WS ring. Plus we have the foundation to keep winnng for a while.

Also, there's the usual caveat that I think most posters here recognize, which is that any of us would be 10x worse at his job, at least.

I started the season thinking he was a B level GM. He's now gotta be considered B+/A- dontcha think?

LOL. No, i wouldn't say Cazic is a decent poster. I will say though that his underlying intent was always to state his opinion, somewhat forcefully at times, but never to disrupt the board. I respect him on a certain level for that - even though I rarely agreed with him, or his logic.

I'll give Sabean a B+ as a horse trader (would be an A+ without the Nathan deal). And a C for player development.

Really, in my comment I was thinking of those who in the off season started threads, or comments, with logic like - the Giants are idiots/buffoons/dunces, therefore Huff/Franchez/Uribe/DeRosa is garbage.....yada, yada, petitio principii, yada, yada.

I didn't mind the comment that much made by ElJ. I do agree with him to some extent in that we (and I include myself in this demographic 100%) probably do talk about that board more than we should.....but, for a lot of us, it's kind of cathartic I think. A lot of us spent a lot of years over there lurking or posting and it's more just a bummer to see a once great board devolve into its current condition. I know gp and Anthem/Hennessy, SF11704 (and others) and myself probably have been reading/posting on that board for close to 10 years.

The only comment that was kind of bothersome to me was the "high school" mentality of "our" board (i.e. - the "cool" kids). I don't remember who said it and really, it's not important who did. I just hope that's not how this board is perceived in general. I like to think all of us welcome every new Giants fan who comes here to post. Whether it's by invite or by google search, it doesn't matter one lick to me. As far as I'm concerned there are two categories, "good guy" or "a-hole". If you're the former, welcome aboard. Maybe I'm wrong though, who knows.

***Stipulation: All this said though, ElJ is a solid guy and a solid contributor to this board and I hope he posts here more often (not saying any of you are saying something different). But if he doesn't want to post here much anymore, that's cool too.

Doh. I think that was me. :( But I didn't say there was a "highschool mentality" I said something like "sometimes it's a little bit highscool (in regards to criticising the super dumbshit posters on the espn board)" I stand by that, I think sometimes we go over the top, but fuck it.

Tito is a dumbfuck and NN is a prick (and an idiot) and Cazic can suck a fat one - see I can be highschool too :)

If I were still posting over there, on the 'biggest upset' thread I'd mention that the Giants sweeping the WS in 4 games in 1954 vs a Cleveland team that won 111 games (out of 154...would be like winning 117 today) should have to rate.

No maybe he hasn't in a while but dude...

Do you know how many Alex Smith stole my girlfriend threads he started over the past 6 years on the Niners board?

Do you know how many Baron Davis is my lover threads he started on the Warriors board?

What about his 40 shutouts prediction and incessant whining back then in 08 was it?

I have a pretty clear memory that that guy is definitely a dick and was definitely trying to disrput. So yeah, I disagree with that part :)

+1. His points were definitely legit. His blind defense of them was not. He crossed the line from vociferous minority opinion to hyperposting cock at some point, and painted himself into a corner way too often.

Yeah, I didn't appreciate the "cool board" moniker, gave off a superiority complex that most of us didn't appreciate about the mules.

I consider us like outcasts and misfits ... fits the current theme of Giants :)

I don't think we're outcasts or misfits. We came here on our own (not cast out) and if you want to call the intelligent adults here the 'misfits' instead of the jerks and trolls and so forth there, can't stop you. :-)

gp and I played up the 'cool board' term to antagonize Livin/Fraudres.

A more accurate term is 'better board'. It's not a superiority 'complex' if you are in fact superior.

A WS win might be enough to make ESPN's board livable again. But I kinda doubt it...

GO GIANTS! FINISH THEM!
