Here is my concern - this team is not that great but they are playing team ball and they are coming together and playing together really nice. The chemistry is better then last year when we had Dwight Coward. Now when Kobe comes back with his ball hog ways, taking too many shots and taking minutes away from the other players - I am concern that the team will stop playing together and stop growing like they need to do. Is it too late to waive Kobe?

Can't argue that it's kind of a concern on all the Lakers fans minds. They're playing with good chemistry and intensity. Hoping it keeps up when he DOES get back on the court...

It is hard to know what will happen with chemistry, but how many Kobe teams have been .500 or worse? Only one, the year that Shaq left which Lakers fans will tell us was bereft of talent.

Kobe will open up a lot more options on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. I sincerely doubt Kobe's return will be anything but beneficial to the Lakers.

The good news is whatever damage Kobe does to the Lakers will hopefully be short lived as he is on the verge of retirement

Jordan was 34 his last year as a Bull (13 seasons)

Kobe is 35 and in his 18 year as a Laker

The bad news is that Kobe could assume a front office and/or an ownership position in the Lakers, and have a large say in every decision the Lakers make for decades and decades

We don't know what kind of player we're getting after the surgery so we need to start from there. If he's going to be relegated to spot shooter/post-up type player, I don't see any issues him hoisting shots. If somehow he's got a jumping ability half to 3/4 of what he had then maybe it could disrupt things.
If you need a go-to guy when the game is on the line, you know who'll take the last shot as Kupchak said as he was rehabbing. Let's wait and see what we'll get as a player before we cast any potential negative ramifications on the dude.

Forget this year as a Laker fan, root for the Lottery. That is your best chance to get some good talent to come to LA while you have Kobe.

As for this year I think Lakersuscbam nailed it.

@Tshirt I do not see Kobe as a GM but I think he is smart enough not to be MJ at it.

Jim Buss has to be the dumbest owner alive next to Dan Snyder

2 year extension that makes Kobe the highest paid player in the league? Really? Dude he is not going to be worth that at 37. Hell he's not worth it right now.

Well ownership in the Lakers is not an option any more - In case you didn't hear it, Dr Jerry Buss placed all of the stock into an irrevocable trust for the children which means they don't have the right to sell the company.

That being said - I would consider it good news if the Lakers had moved Kobe into the front office next season - it would mean they are free to rebuild the team now.
