For someone who doesn't take this seriously you seem to really want me to buy into this. Not gonna happen...

FACT: every band wagoner and fair weather fan I've ever seen are individuals who are too weak .to be able to take the words "your team SUCKS". Period, end of argument. If all this was as casual as you SAY it is why even follow sports...?:noidea:

I'm not the one questioning peoples character over a game I'm not even playing myself. That would be you. Thats typical of someone that takes it too seriously. Its just a game. You don't get bonus points in life because you were a die hard fan. I follow sports because I like to watch athletes play the game I played. I don't get wrapped up in it to the point I think less of someone else who doesn't have the same attitude I do.

Could be worse. I COULD follow the path of least resistance, like WATER...:lol:

That actually a wise saying. "Be the water not the rock." I would add water is mightier than any rock because it will erode that rock down to nothing.

It has been explained to you how many times?
Sports is entertainment (to most of us here).
It's more fun to win than lose, but in the scheme of life goes on the list of unimportant.

You are so full of shit. If they suck, they suck. It has happened lots of times.
I have sat through many a horrible sports season. I'm quite sure these other
guys have to.

As far as the reason to follow, again, its entertainment.
Even if your team sometimes suck, it's still fun to watch the other great athletes/teams play.

That's funny considering it's guys like you and Not trying to insinuate that folks who show passion and loyalty for a team is somehow misguided, or even borderline psychotic...

I'll say it again, I'm QUITE passionate when it comes to the teams I follow. But I hardly have a problem differentiating it from real life. Do keep trying, though...

Amazing. Generalize and categorize. Too funny...

Lol, if you SAY so. Too bad you've already admitted to swapping teams , so your word doesn't QUITE back the OL' sting, OL' sock...

Duh...

Got any more pearls of wisdom to drop on the audience...?

Even if your team sometimes suck, it's still fun to watch the other great athletes/teams play.

Unless of course you don't bother to stick it out and just switch teams. MUCH easier to do for fans of weak resolve. Then you don't have to deal with those ugly li'l slights from opposing fan bases...

You guys crack me up...:laugh3:

Well I only point that out when people insinuate that I lack moral fiber because I don't pledge my allegiance and inheritance to a specific team until I die.

People who switch loyalty to a team just because they are winning, aren't really a fan of any team.

That being said, people have many different reasons of why they become fans of a team.

If their original reasons drastically change, there is no reason to continue to support that situation.

I agree with this (just threw up a little in my mouth typing that).
All of the teams that I am/have been a fan of (USC, Lakers, Rams, Dodgers), I basically became a fan of when I was about 8 years old and really started playing and following sports.

There is only one team that I have stopped supporting and that's the Rams. I was a Rams fan through lean times, playoff disappointments and continued to support the team through their last season in Anaheim even as I watched Georgia Frontiere destroy the team so that she could claim "lack of fan support" as her reason to move the team to St. Louis. After that final season, when they actually moved, I had reached my limit and have not supported them since.

Outside of an extreme example like that, I agree with CL that a true fan sticks with their team through thick and thin!!

Wise people understand its a law of nature which people are inherently part of. Wise people also understand when people make things hard its because they are either trying to deceive you or they don't understand it themselves. In this case its a metaphor for life. its made me more money than basketball so far.

LOL whatever you say. so it's WISE to label people and put them to the side. got it...know who ELSE follows that line of thinking? bigots. sorry, but i think it isn't ME who doesn't get it...be one with nature, then. me, i come from EXACTLY where i think. why do you think i have no need to try and deceive anybody? hell, i don't even KNOW you. but to suggest that when someone shows passion and loyalty that there's something wrong with THAT individual? well, it's YOUR world...do keep your reach on, bro...

lol, Georgia by herself was a huge temptation for ANY fan to switch, but still...:suds:

So the concepts of faith, loyalty, and perseverance are beyond you. Whatever. It is what it is I guess...

I did. like that has anything to do with it. It WAS you with the article suggesting folks who are loyal and passionate for their teams somehow have a bug in their program...

I don't think anyone (other than Bot) ever disagreed with that premise.
My objection was the 'no matter what' statement.

And, back to the original point of the thread, it is on point.

There seldom is loyalty between the owners and the players, and that is because sports is a big business that requires both sides to make huge financial decisions.

That has everything to do with it. What did I say that was not true? If you are saying the NBA does not market to its fans and therefore brainwashes them then you are in denial. Nothing wrong with being brainwashed. its when you keep denying it against all evidence to the contrary then you have a bug in your program.

Except of course calling it a BRAINWASHING is taking it to the extreme. So I guess you're brainwashed whenever you followed your parent's wishes. Sorry, but making decisions based on all data available ISN'T a mind job. Seems to be a paranoid point of view if you ask me...

Nothing wrong with marketing. Trust me, I know all about it. Secret is you put your product out to show your "customer" and let THEM make the decision to buy. No one likes being sold...

Maybe I should say you've been indoctrinated then. You can let them decide but you can also influence them to that decision so they think they did it themselves. i do it everyday.

trust me, so do I. Difference is I'm not calling it a mind job AND I'm genuinely out to help people. In any case, this is getting away from the topic. I still say there's nothing wrong with showing loyalty and showing passion with it. I ALSO still think switching teams is a weak thing for ANY fan to do. It is what it is...
