What happened with the Saints defense?

Why are they playing so much better this year? They were absolutely horrible last year but this year it looks like they have a top defense. I haven't seen any Saints games yet except for some highlights and some red zone. Serious question. Why is the defense so much better this year?

Well for one changing to a 3-4 helped and also adding better cover corners also helped.

Total revamp of the Defense. Rob Ryan came in with a new D and really got things going. I wasn't a believer when he came to town but i'm starting to believe now.

Rob Ryan, one of the three greatest defensive minds in NFL history along with his twin brother (Rex) and father (Buddy) who was DC of the legendary 85 Bears D...when the 85 Bears D carried Buddy Ryan off the field on their shoulders along with head coach and former NFL HOF TE Mike Ditka, who was also being carried off the field...it was the first time two coaches ever got carried off the field at the Super Bowl.

I'll just add on....there were some young studs on our D-line that just couldn't get playing time. They are getting that time now and they are getting pressure on the QB. Rob Ryan just brought in a new mindset to this defense. We get pressure on the QB, and we cover well....it was the complete opposite last year

As with the wife thing I could careless if nobody respects as long as he continues to lead my team to wins.

For a coach that nobody respects I can guarantee you if he was to re-sign at the end of the season, I can guarantee that every team with a opening at HC would have him as their top candidate

Yes the incompetent teams that are so incompetent they need a new coach, they would make an incompetent decision and hire Payton. And he'd do a mediocre job and get fired after a few years
