The president made these comments to the Associated Press, but he was apparently unaware that an April 2013 AP poll showed that eight out of ten of all Americans in a national sample don't think the Washington Redskins name should be changed.

Obama: Redskins should change name

What is Obama smoking? Saying there is no real equity to the name and there is too much "negativity" with it...

He is a moron on this topic... the Redskins have a TON of equity in that name and brand.

This is a prime example on why the president of the US needs to stay out of sports... this has to be one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard.

Imagine the cost to change everything over even if you assumed they didn't have any equity... not just gear by backoffice stuff (company names, trademarks, etc)

If you look at his presidency as a whole it smacks of a lack of leadership and direction. He is tied with Jimmy Carter as worst president in my lifetime.

as for politics and the board i would rather keep it off because then the thread turns into a libs vs conservative debate and it strays away from football

A bad rep? WTF? Who cares? If that is true then it must be from the dozen or so posters on the main board who practically live on that place & rarely have anything meaningful to say. As for the few posters - that is pretty much expected. Unlike ESPN - not many people know about this place & generally forums like this don't have a lot of posts when the team in not doing well. If/when they win a bit more the activity will pick up.

Obama said, " if I owned the team, I would THINK about changing the name". And he followed it up with alot of other things, qualifying that statement. What else would you expect him to say?

The truth of the matter is that in this day and age of PC correctness, no one in the public eye can afford to say anything else. As I am not Native American, I cannot speak to whether or not offense is felt when the name Redskins is heard. As a Redskins fan for life, I can speak to the fact that no offense has ever been THOUGHT, when I shouted or supported my team.

I'll leave the politics of it to others.
