I can't see him lasting more than a season at this point. You just can't keep your defense on the field 40+ minutes a game and expect to win.

This is a league of Adapt or Die. I think Chip Kelly will be given a 2nd year to try and run his program but he is definitely going to have to adjust after this year. Going for the big play time and time again just won't work in the NFL. Even if it does lead to a score it just means your defense is back out on the field before they can hardly swallow their drink of water. Just like last night where the defense had nothing left in the 4th quarter and the Chiefs just marched right down the field. NFL rosters just do not allow for the same kind of offensive scheme to fly like it does in college.

I honestly think Chip Kelly in a few years could be a great Offensive Coordinator for some team as he does have a brilliant mind when it comes to creative play calling but right now he is definitely taking his lumps as a head coach. The talk of the town week one is now again the talk of the town but not for good reasons.

Well how long is his show cause penalty with the NCAA? He can't pull a Bobby Petrino and jump right back to the NCAA, so unless the Eagles fire him it could be a few years.

I just looked it up, his show cause is 18 months. So my guess is he'll at least last into year 2.

I give all college coaches 2 years of losing before they go back to the NCAA. That goes for Carroll and Harbaugh too. They'll stay in the NFL for as long as they make post season appearances. But if/when they miss for 2 years straight, I think they snap. Look at how bad Harbaugh took that SB loss to his own brother. I don't see him putting up with losing for long. Too easy to win in college vs. the pros and these guys are all used to being big winners.

it's one thing if you're scoring fast and scoring often, but what did they put up? 16? That's not going to win you many in this league. I had my doubts when they hired him, I still have my doubts, but it is only week 3.

He is not a head coach. But he does seem like a great offensive coordinator.

I think it all depends on the personality of the coach but it is a different animal in the pros for sure. I think when they win in the college game it gets easier because recruiting becomes easier. Players want to play in winning programs to be in bowl games etc and get the exposure for the next level. Whereas the pros have salary cap constraints, players leaving via free agency, etc. But well ran organizations find a way to sustain winning. It takes some time to mature and understand that tomorrow is another day.

As for Kelly, it all depends on him adjusting to this league. He is probably better suited to an OC position more than head coach, imo. But he may prove me wrong and turn this thing around. Being in a relatively average division may allow him to get some wins under his belt and work through this. His offense has to protect the ball better though. You can't give it away 4 times a game and expect to win and they do need to give the D a break for sure. Those guys looked totally gassed by the 4th qtr last night. The extra time off will help but they are going to mile high next week. They can't be out there that long against Manning and co. or it will get ugly.

Lurie is not a knee-jerk kind of owner...I think he'll adjust and will live out this contract....pretty sure he'll outlast the guy in Tampa.

I envision Buddy Ryan / Kevin Gilbride type fights on the sidelines when the DC starts screaming at Kelly after his defensive players are laying on the sidelines with oxygen masks on their faces.

Somewhere between 1 and 2 years. Maybe just one if he doesn't adapt

Tampa might have a new coach at their bye week with the way they are going

In the NFL is gets awfully difficult to succeed if your only calling card is spread people out. You have to be able adapt and evolve in this league, and that means you've better be able to pack it in a little bit.

I love what Chip Kelly wants to do, but you're asking people to consistently win one on one match ups. That's hard to do when everyone is a great athlete.

He's given a 2nd year, but I'm not sure it goes much beyond that.

Even with no success he makes into a 3rd year. Either be fired in mid season or plays out the season, but he makes it over 2 years easily.
1st year everyone will say it takes a year to adjust. 2nd year will be other reasons the team is failing & some disappointment & talk about Kelly being on the hot seat. Making it to the 3rd year is a given no matter what.

The offense turns the ball over 5x and all of a sudden we're talking about how long Chip will last in the NFL??

Does he get any credit for currently having the number 1 rushing attack?

not when the team is 1-2 and going into a stretch where they will find wins harder to get.
