Rex on Pats' tempo: "Everyones talking about the Eagles. If anyones faster than New England, I haven't seen it." #NYJ

The Patriots had this offense for years now.

The Patriots don't have the personnel that makes it look like such a back-breaking speed they're playing at

Let's see how the Eagles offense looks in week 8/9. I'm curious as to whether or not they completely burn themselves out.

Rex is obviously right that the Pats have played at a fast pace offensively for a number of years. Last year they led the league in average number of plays per game, which I think is the probably the best widely reported stat for measuring offensive tempo. (I guess that one could divide number of plays by time of possession to get a better measure of tempo, but I've never seen it reported.)

This past weekend NE ran 89 plays, the most of any team in the league. Ravens were second with 87 plays, followed by Philly and Detroit with 77 plays each. Add to that that Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta, and Indy all won their games while running only the 21st, 22nd, 26th, and 28th most plays, respectively, and it's not too clear that running more plays (presumably by playing at a faster tempo) is necessarily an advantage, is it?

The Patriots have nowhere near the speed.
Tom Brady is not going to be a runner.

Those are huge diffrences in the offenses.

the Patriots run a version that Buffalo and the K-gun hurry up had for years in their glory days.

The EAGLES version looks nothing like the Patriots/Bill hurry up game.

My mistake, of course, your are right. Still, running a lot of plays quickly doesn't seem to be highly correlated with winning.

I agree particularly when you are running a read option you are in danger of gassing your quarterback, durability quickly : becomes an issue especially with Vick.
