At age 35 now, and coming off an achilles injury, one has to wonder if Kobe can return to being the best player in the league again. When Kobe was 21-22 years old, Shaq started calling the best player in the league. In most eyes, he's been the best player in the game ever since. A guy who can score 50 or 60 points when necessary. The best lock down perimeter defender the league has seen since MJ. A fierce competitor. A guy who does whatever the team needs.

Whether it was scoring 81 points or dishing out 14 assists like Kobe did often last year, Kobe did whatever was necessary to win. He took a terrible, injured team last year to the playoffs. A team that had no chance of making the playoffs till Kobe decided to guarantee a playoff birth. In fact, many people felt that had Kobe not gotten injured, a healthy Laker team was the favorite to win it all. And I have to agree.

Even at age 34, Kobe proved with his versaitlity (scoring, assists, clutch play) that he was the best in the game. But now, coming off of an injury that most nba players don't recover fully from, the question is out there? Is Kobe still the best player in the game?

At age 35, with the injury, I have to say NO. I feel Kobe is now ready to pass the torch to players like Durant or others. If it's Durant that takes the mantle from Kobe, then I say the leagues in good hands. Like Kobe, Durant is a guy who comes through under pressure and never folds or hides when the team needs him most.

Should be interesting to see how Kobe responds. But if history has taught us one thing, it's don't count Kobe out. He's got the biggest heart in basketball, and I have a feeling he's not going to go away quitely.

Peace!!

He hasn't been the best in a loooong time. He is done.

Will put up decent numbers but barely in top 10, especially with that big of an injury. He won't last much longer.

Should be interesting. He's been the best for a long time. But father time and injury gets the best of everyone. Possibly Kobe should go on Ped's like the Heat Players.

Agreed; Kobe has had his day and it is now Lebron's time.

LeBron is best player the last 7 years, hands down. Kobe hasn't been in the spotlight for a looooooong time.

Huh? He's been first team all nba like 12 times....Don't confuse a guy going to a team stacked with STARS as being the best....Kobe's been the best player in the league, offensively & defensively for almost 12 years....If you're a chronic choker like Lebron, you can never be the best in ANY sport.

Peace!!

Once I read that if Kobe was not injured the Lakers would've won it all, I lol'd.

And if it wasn't for all those guys being Old, injured, it would've been a great season. Or if it was 5 years ago....

A lot of experts had picked the Lakers to beat the spurs before Kobe went down. And the Spurs won the championship, had Ray Allen not bailed Lebron's choking ass out.

Probably, but don't count Kobe out. He's been the best for a long time, and is the ultimate competitor. Kobe might not be ready to pass the torch just yet...And if he does, I believe Durant's next in line because Durant plays well under pressure and doesn't choke and disappear like Lebron always does.
